I replaced the Auxiliary (Rear) Mode Door Actuator that controls floor vs headliner airflow.

Before replacement:

  • Actuator made a constant clicking noise
  • Mode door did not operate correctly
After replacement:

  • Clicking noise is completely gone
  • Mode door now operates correctly in all positions
  • Airflow changes properly between floor and headliner
  • No abnormal sounds or behavior
However, FORScan still reports DTC B2917 – Rear Mode Door Circuit Failure, even though the actuator is functioning normally.

Questions:

  1. Is this likely a stored or latched code that requires an HVAC recalibration?
  2. Could this indicate a wiring or connector issue even if the actuator works?
  3. Does the rear HVAC module need a relearn/reset procedure after actuator replacement?
  4. Is there a known issue where FORScan reports this code unless calibration is completed with IDS/FDRS?
I haven’t yet performed a full HVAC calibration/relearn, only cleared codes.

Any guidance on the proper next diagnostic step would be appreciated.

How did you get Forscan to "see" HVAC codes? I looked in the "IC" module and saw nothing to scan HVAC. Yet I get the click-click-click sound and seems to be coming from right in front of the driver position, not in front of the console. I have the multi zone automatic control. Just need to confirm which actuator is the problem

Yes, the actuators must be calibrated, and most bi-directional scanners have this function, and it is very simple!
