Anyone else had this happen?

The back of the belt looks like fabric. There is not rubber anymore.

The tensioner and idler pulley both look like they have rubber residue(spots) on them.

Should I try to clean up the pulley's or just throw on a new belt and not worry?

Or should I get a new tensioner and idler pulley?

1998 Lincoln Navigator 5.4l with 155000miles

Thanks!
Jason

I would check the tensioner and idler pulleys to see if they rotate freely with no slop with belt off of course. If they make significant noise as you spin them the bearings may be dried out and would recommend changing them now before they do go bad. If they pass your test just clean them up well with alcohol or equal where they mate with the belt and replace belt.

Mine looked similar with high milage on it.
