2017 Expedition 3.5L EB, I believe it has the 6A transmission.

We've had a LOT of rain here in KY lately and we have a gravel covered driveway. Every so often when backing off of the pad onto the gravel the rear wheels will slip while in 2H. I get a dash indicator of slippery conditions and hear a grinding/growling noise for a moment. Once I stop backing up and shift to D the noise stops. When leaving the driveway to the road the rear wheels may slip again with the same result. I let off the gas, then press again to keep moving and the growl stops. I don't believe it will do this when in a 4x mode.

Basic question: Is this normal behavior during a slip of a wheel in 2H?

Thanks for any insight.

Traction control/anti-lock brake systems doing their thing. Normal behavior.
Thank you for the confirmation. I thought it sounded like ABS kicking in at the time. I also didn't just want to wave it off if it could be an indicator of future repairs.

I have a 2017 EL and I get the same sort of 'growl' pulling from my gravel driveway onto the paved street in 2H. I am hopeful you are correct and this is normal.
Thanks for your response.
