Expedition

I have had numerous ford trucks to start with. Everyone of them that had the trailer toe prep I was able to add the trailer brake controller and then have the truck flashed to get it to work. So I just retired and took all my money out of my 401k and in 2024 found the green expedition that I have been wanting. It had all the toeing hitch and electrical connections. It said it had the trailer toe prep kit. So the only thing that the prep kit could be for was adding trailer brake controller. (I got the expedition to toe my camper). I got with ford and got what they said I needed and went to put it in. At that point I could not find the trailer box under the dash. So I took it back to ford to have them put it in for me. They had to check with ford to find where to plug it all in and program it. To my surprise! I got a call from them telling me that Ford said I cannot add Trailer brakes to the OEM spot on my expedition that it cannot have the trailer brake controller put on the king Ranch so now I have a 2024 expedition that I spent all my money I had in my 401(k) and I can’t even pull my camper with it now. I don’t have the money to buy another expedition with the Trailer tow package in it. I don’t know why they discontinued it but all my other trucks had it my F150s so you would assume that if it has the prep pack it’s ready for trailer brakes just doesn’t have the controller put in. I would like to see what you can do about resolving this issue because there’s no other reason to have a prep package and a seven pen in the back if you can’t have brake controller, please let me know what you can do about this issue. I’m out of money. This is what I’m sending to Ford

I would get a second opinion from another dealer, or try a camping world. I bet Ford is mistaken. What year is your King Ranch, we can look at the wiring online.

It’s a 2024. With the 22” wheels. They said it would have had to of had the 18” wheels. I can add aftermarket but want OEM.

It looks like the connector for the factory brake controller is in the dash in position. I would look again.

Correct. My trailer brake controller sits in that location. However, it comes combined with something called backup pro trailer asssist. That is another knob that sits above the brake controller. At least it is like that on my SPP with Sync4A (the big vertical display). Plus the HD trailer tow package, bigger rear axle, 3.73 rear end ratio, stiffer shocks etc.

That tire size excuse is bullcrap. Because mine HAS the 22” rims, as a Stealth Performance Package.

Find yourself another dealer. You are getting hosed.

Yes they said the HD has it but mine does not have the Trailer controller for backing up. So with what I have from the dealership, there’s three wires one that plugs into the trailer plug with lights and brakes on it another one that plugs into the actuator that you can adjust in pool and then there’s another group of wires that has to plug into the control box which is not in the dash where it shows it should be. They also said that there is no software in there for the controller and they have no means of installing that software because it’s not set up for it.

Umm… I just looked. Here in Canada the trailer brake controller is CAD $438 and the dealer programs it. Nuttn special about it. Some dealer even advertise it.
It will not have the trailer backup pro crap, but just a factory brake controller with gain and a slider.

I think you need a different dealer.

Can confirm. I have a 2023 Limited SPP with 22 inch wheels and it has the integrated brake controller, backup assist, etc.

the key is, the Integrated Brake COntroller was only installed on cars with option 536, whihc is the HD Tow package. On most packages, HD Tow is optional.
So what? If these cars had a brake controller, how hard can it be to retrofit it? I am just talking about the controller, not the back up pro crap that I have to use yet!?
