Ahead is anInteresting story to kill 5 minutes of your valuable time on (long read)
me and a few others spun out on the same intersection yesterday evening, cars turning left and right at that intersection both were spinning out or sliding on what seems like a visibly dry road.
I was the second out of 7 to spin or slide, As I was turning left on the light, the Tacoma infront of me that was also turning spun out 180 degrees three quarters of the way into the turn then rolled back 40-50 feet before backing into another car in the oncoming traffic , before I can finish saying "huh what an..." I freaking started spinning too except i ended doing a full 360 within my lanes before the truck stalled.
Two more cars turning left behind me at the time also spun out, the dually f350 spun 180 and rolled back a couple feet before his tow hitch ball hit my tow hitch ball (no damage), the Chevy Colorado behind that f350 spun very slow long but he rolled back half a mile into a curb... Literally he rolled back so far almost out of view before breaking his axles on a high curb... Like wtf?!?
Two cars turning right from the other side of the street didn't get the message that there might be a reason why everyone is spinning out and they proceeded to attempt to navigate through all the trucks but first car (Acura TL) never made a full turn... Just half way into it and it started sliding forward into oncoming traffic and crashed pretty hard as he floored it into the turn when his light turned green ((idiots 101 right there)), the Corolla behind the TL also slid straight into the back of that TL but at a much slower speed that he didn't manage to get any damage. Seems RWD cars spin and FWD/AWD slide
After that all other cars stopped entering the intersection and some went to help the TL driver and the minivan driver he T-boned. I was gonna go check on the guy in the F350 but soon as I stepped on pavement I slipped and ended up doing a rather pretty painful split with one foot on the ground and one on the running boards.
All were ok except the teenager driving daddy's TL he bashed his head so hard on the windshield that his face was all just glass and blood with deep gouaches (scar face 4sure)
Anyways this story is turning out longer than I anticipated... The seventh lucky car was the police charger RT as it came flying down trying to secure the area but instead it slid into the traffic light and turned a fine machine into what seems to be a blue mangled tin can. Police officer, TL driver and two minivan passangers needed medical attention it seemed.
My expedition and the F350 were the only ones that stalled on the spin and that helped a lot, all others were still running, after seeing all what was happening and how hard the cop hit, I & the f350 guy decided to bail out of there before something else happens.
We took off but the expy had no traction as if I'm driving on ice, anyways I drove a 100 yards to the next traffic light and the f350 driver next to me told me to do a burn out to clean the tires and it sure did, 5 second burnout brought back 100% traction.
2 hours later my neighbor asked me as I was having a smoke outside as to what happened cause he just passed that intersection and firefighters had it completely covered in foam.
I assume only the fords turned off cause some Fords have an inertia switch in the pump circuit to detect a certain G load from any direction that will cut off the power to the pump, Acura/Honda could really benefit from this I would think.
As to what was on the pavement... I don't know still, it wasn't oil that's forsure, it had the same characteristics as water... Thin, clear, no smell but slippery as hell to the point that everyone was extremely struggling to stand up on it, let alone walk or drive.
Sorry I didn't take pics, I wasn't in that state of mind at that moment.. Haven't watched the news yesterday either to see if it was mentioned.
