2003 Ford expedition Eddie Bauer, 4 x 4 5.4 2 valve. 218,000 miles this car runs great in very good condition and we drive it all over the country. My question is my traction control light recently started flashing and I’m getting a C 1998 code which says that I need to recalibrate my steering angle sensor and I bought this scanner that does the SAS but when I do it, it says that during the test it loses communication. I’m not sure why I can’t calibrate it. Is there something I need to replace first that it is losing the communication also, are there any wire harnesses or wires that I could check that corrode on people? Can anyone help me?

I didn't think we had a steering angle sensor, I thought that was only on electric power steering. I got nothin' much to offer. Here's the location and connector/wire colors.

Wow, those wire diagrams are great. I ended up figuring out while my scanner would not do the test it was because it needed an update. I recalibrated it and now everything works. Would you be able to get me any more of those wire diagrams? Do you have access?

I did have to repeat the procedure a few times before I understood the directions. Everything has to be perfect and I was turning too slowly.

Traction control light and I got the code C 1278 I cleared the code but I shouldn’t have because that code was telling me. It was the SAS the next code after I cleared said C 1998 but I disconnected the SAS and reconnected it and did the steering calibration and now everything is fine.
