Hello everyone,

I'm looking to reset my TCM for my 2019 Expedition Platinum, fairly sure its the 10R80 transmission. I'm experiencing some hard shifts and long hesitations on the highway but these issues usually go away after the Transmission Fluid reaches a temp around 175-200 degrees. I have replaced the transmission fluid and filter with OEM, new diff fluid, oil, filter and cabin air filter. Tried a few different youtube methods but nothing has worked thus far, at least that I know of. (https://fordmasterx.com/ford-adaptive-learning-transmission-reset/) I do have a scan tool but it does not have Forscan. I've searched the Forums but haven't come across anything, then again I could be looking in the wrong direction.

Does anyone know how to reset the TCM and possibly deactivate the TCM learning feature? Any other additions to help my transmission issue? If I could deactivate the TCM learning feature, would it be better or worse for me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

This is obviously an TSB issue. Something is going on hardware level. Software reset can't fix it. I deactivated TCM self learning feature for at least three time so far. Each time, transmission worked even worse than when I kept the self learning feature on. So I just leave it on.

I agree with this. I've had mine rebuilt twice already and no amount of resetting the TCM will stop a hardware issue.

That said... I started having it happen a third time. When I took it in for my appointment, I expected the dealer to either be replacing or rebuilding the transmission again. This time they came back and said they could not replicate the problem. When I picked up the car after two days, neither could I. After a few days and a few hundred miles it did come back. I suspect that they reset the transmission learning and gave the car back to me. Bottom line, I do think that the transmission learning can temporarily mask the symptoms, but still, it's a hardware issue that won't go away with some programming.

Next dealer visit (and there will be one) I'm going to have the SA or tech ride in the car with me and demonstrate it before I hand them the keys.

You can do this easily with Forscan. I erase all the learn regularly on my 2019 Platinum. It really helps. I did have learn disabled for a while, then recently enabled it. Download the Forscan trial, then generate free 2 months trial Extended License Key. You will be able to use it to do what you want. I purchased the 1-year license since I have a few Fords.
