Finally got to my rear differential. Tried a few weeks back when I did the TC. The TC plugs came out with no effort.
The rear diff on the other hand was a beast. Started to bugger up the fill plug so I stopped since I had no new plugs. Bought new plugs turns out the come with red loctite from the factory.
Heated them up with the MAP torch and the came out with no issues.
I have 55,000 miles and I had no noise or issues with the rear. I just like to do all my maintenance at about half the intervals that the factory calls for. The fluid was super dark but had no milkiness so that is good and means it is sealed up real nice. Both plug magnets were full full full of real fine gooo. No big chunks or flakes of metal so I am presuming that is just fione metal from break in. The 2nd pic shows the plug start to bugger up. This was with no heat and just PB blaster. Do yourself a favor and just heat them up from the get go. The drain plug had no deformation and came out with not issue with a very short handled ratchet at there is not much room to get a big ratchet between the diff and the IRS components. The 3rd picture shows that I need a higher lifting jack. It barely gets my tire off the ground.
Also this moron forgot friction modifier and realized it as I was doing the last pump of Amsoil. Amsoil used to claim their was no need for friction modifier with their gear oil but I believe they have backed off that claim as they have their own slip lock additive now. Thankfully I have a company car or it would have been a long 10 mile bike ride to the dealer and it was 40* out this morning.
Took her for a drive after sealing her all up and she was running smooth as a sewing machine.
I still need to do the front diff and transmission. Hope to be getting skid plates here soon so I will just wait to do those since the front diff rarely gets used the fluid is fine in there and the tranny has no issues. So it can wait a month or so till I can get the plates.
