2003XLT Rustbucket BEATER. Decided 5 years was long enough for an air filter (20K miles) so I put a crowbar in my wallet and bought one (Motorcraft Advance Auto $18). Well, not much is easy so the ring that holds the filter case together broke in half (rusted through of course). Easiest & cheapest & fastest thing to do was repair it , so I wove some fibreglass tape through and made it functional again. Ought to last a few more years. Done.

I know enough to order online at Advance Auto (since I wanted it NOW) and use a promo code to save 15%. Well, a new feature is to let Microsoft Edge search for and choose the best coupons, which I did and saved $6.19. Almost enough for a 12 pack of Genny Kolsch

2104EL Valvoline Instant Oil change yesterday even though only 3K miles in last year due to lack of travel. I change oil/filter "at least" once a year. 5W20 synthetic blend.

last 6 years oil change prices
2021 --> $91
2020 --> $75
2019 --> $56
2018 --> $53
2017 --> $51
2016 --> $46

I think inflation is a bit higher than being reported.

this morning at the Home Depot
2x4 hem fir almost $8
7/16 OSB sheathing almost $40

Cant keep printing unbacked money without having inflation.

It’s first bath since the transmission swap and it’s first Five Guys Burgers. Actually Joe and I had the burgers, we made the truck wait outside.

We will see what happens when restrictions loosen and these companies can catch up. Right now everything is going up. After seeing what houses are going for and knowing what I can build per square at it looks like I’m going to have to build my first house. I’m not willing to get in a bidding war for an old pile of crap I can build new for $15-20/square less lol. Time to start looking for land. Weird times.

Wait a year or two. About 5% of mortgages are in forbearance. Unemployment is at historical highs. Once the hype's over they'll be plenty of deals out there. I've lived through a bunch of these real estate cycles.

The trades will also be sucking up for work.

Those who have a skill; a good steady source of inflation-proof income will be able to write their tickets.

We shall see what happens, even a realtor friend said since I can go that route it might be a good option. When you buy a piece of land and are your own GC you aren’t bidding with anyone but yourself lol. Right now everything is going over ask and it’s old, just doesn’t look like a good option in my eyes.

Maybe when restrictions loosen things will come back down. This bubble has been supposed to “pop” for years and it just may be the new norm...doesn’t seem to be changing.

Kevin! You got it on the road! Congratulations!

You've created one fine looking truck!

Thank you. I wasn’t sure I could do it. Now that I’ve driven it, the front end feels a little squirrelly at 70mph and it has the rear bump or knock that I’m guessing is the bushing in the differential brace I’ve seen a Makuloco video on. Miss at idle too, lol

People are paying so much for homes around here I'm tempted to sell and build a pole barn home on my parents land to live in for a bit. Could walk away with so much extra compared to 5 years ago it would be nearly a freebie and could just bank the equivalent of my mortgage until we're ready to get something else.

Lumber is outrageous too. I have a good amount of 3/4 and 1/2" sheets from projects to be/haven't gotten around to I could probably take a week off work w the proceeds! I was stunned by the price of 2x4...

To contribute to the thread at least a little... I did give it a nice wash, quick spray wax, dressed up the interior with some 303 and a new bourbon tree in the back. Navigator needs a good wash, mud from the in laws driveway the other day is strewn down the side and looking terrible. I have a slight vibration up from on the expy at around 48-52mph that I need to isolate. I'm hoping it's just tires...They're nearing end of life finally. I didnt bother to rotate them this past oil change as they'd be off by the time the next rolls around.

I recently bought mine and just finished converting it to my instacamper. I go away for weekends fishing and tow a boat so I can't tow a camper. Here are some pictures..... a 2013 EL

It's just the wife and I so I don't need back seats, I need a living room, stuck the captains chairs in storage.

The bunk has a full size bed mattress on 1/2 inch plywood supported by three 1 x 8's. Plenty of storage.

The dog thinks it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. He has a 360 degree view while riding and doesn't have to get off his ass to see it!
