why is my expy a pain?

today, the battery died because of the door ajar sensor not working. i replaced them and guess what? problem is still there. except i traced it to the loom of wiring going from the door to the truck. the ride is terrible and its handeling is also bad! it has a terrible alternator whine. my radio goes in and out. my trunk lid is spraypainted by the previous owner. it has mix match rims with new tires on te front, yet, it still has the continentals on the back that need to be filled up every 2 days, and when they get filled up, they were nearing 10psi. the back of my drivers seat and passengers seat are sliced and diced because it used to be a drug runner. the drivetrain is completly SOLID. that is THE best part. it was bought for an upnorth truck and to tow our pop up camper and it cant even brake quick enough for it to be safe, yet the brakes are meaty as ever. drivers side window crapped out when we first got it and even after we replaced it, with brand new parts, and it broke the exact same way the previous one did. its a love hate relationship, and i wish we had gotton somthing different or just a different expedition. i love expeditions. all of your guys expeditions look great and most likely work great too. i guess thats what i get for buying a car that is 2 hours away from my house in the dark why?!!! dont get me wrong i love expeditions and this forum, just dont like my expedition, rant over!

wow...lol... you feel better? everyone needs to rant every now and again... I was gonna rant about 3.13 a gallon gas but thats why I just bought an 02 Dodge Neon..... expy can sit...

well meant $3.13 a gallon... I can average about 11.9-12.2 MPG... with the 37s but the neon can get me 24-28mpg

yeah I'm usually pretty gentle with mine... but also it could be the difference between the 97 and 99 5.4 motors... but the biggest gain I got5 for my mpg was adding the "edge CS" programmer... makes a huge difference

thats true, with the tuner making the engine more efficient and the higher flow heads, i can definetly see how you would get better gas mileage than me

$3.13 a gallon. that what it is here in LA. and i thought CA was the state getting overcharged cuz of our smog requirements. Does NY have similar laws?

no smog tests... well no "sniffer tests" only check for CEL on... but NY is just bad cuz of taxes thanks to NYC

Well hell we are at 93 cents a litre - AKA 3.8L per gallon - 3.534 per gallon - so I hear you brother - plus I have to run in AWD or $ x $ half the year to deal with winter! Like right now, roads are seriously slippery - that and the additional cost of winter tires... sucks also - but that the price I pay to be able to tow my travel trailer - and have a 4 x 4 that can drive in almost any conditions... I actually miss my old Chev Astro - a little less power, with the winter tires and the G80 locking rear end that thing I think dealt better with the winter than the expy - but it's lighter, not a V8, and not as nice a ride - I won't trade it...

My best advice I could give to you would be to decide whether or not it's going to be worth putting the money and the time into it, or would it be easier to just buy another.
Add up the prices on the parts you need and how much time you need to repair it. Not having a car payment is nice, but do you have time, let alone another vehicle to drive while you make your repairs.
There are a lot of people on this website and most of us have had similar problems, so you're not alone. I've been able to solve most my problems myself with the help of all the great people here. And not to mention, prevent some, too.

my expo is also a drug runner... was a drug runner. yeah thats it. haha but the drugs were in the gas tank. so when we got it there was no gas tank. had to get a new one. my dads tundra also drug runner. the seats were all cut up and bad. he just put seat covers on and you will never know. as for the breaks bleed them. make sure no air is in the lines. wheels and tires replace the tires or if you can find cheap matching rims on craiglist do that. then replace the tires. i have the door ajar problem everyonce in a while. if you have it all the time then pull the fuse that goes to the door lights. dont remember which one it is. my window is still broken. yes STILL! for all the members that remember. this happened last semester of school. about 6 months ago. idk how i lived summer with out my window down. but also how much you pay for it compared to how much you have to put in. say about 75% max to put in. maybe even 50% like insurance companys. hope that helps.
