I have a 2003 XLT and I can't get the cigarette lighter to work. I thought it was as simple as pushing it down, and it will pop out when it's ready... but it never pops out, and if I pull it out manually, there's no sign of any heat. I tried looking it up in the manual but couldn't find anything on it. Is mine defective or am I not doing something right?

Unless you have the smokers pkg. This is merely a 12v outlet, and will not support a lighter properly.

7 years later and this still doesn't work!!!! I'm thinking about trying this universal replacement: http://www.car-stuff.com/2003fordexpeditioncigarettelighter.htm

Does it receive power? If you plug something in there, does it work? If so, then it's the lighter part itself. Granted, it seems if you just get the part you linked, you'll get the part for decently cheap since the seems to be at least that price on ebay for used parts. None of them are for our gen Expedition, though.

It doesn't receive any power, I wasn't sure if it was supposed to because it has never worked. If I had known I could use it as a second 12v I would have fixed it sooner.

I think it's more of an issue whether there is the bench seat or center console, if there was a "smokers package" it would have been listed on the window sticker.

After 7 years of not working I finally have the new part sitting on my desk, now I wonder how many years it will be until I decide to install it..I'm hoping by the end of the summer to get everything 100% functional on my expedition... probably going to spend about $6,000 in repairs, the car's only worth $7,000 but so far there are no new expeditions that impress me so I just have to stick with what I have.
