I would try to get the original tow package harness either at the dealer or from a junk yard, it's basically plug and play and you will have a nice clean, reliable set up. At the very least I would take out all that mess and start from scratch if you don't want to get the ford harness. Either...
Thanks, I paid $3500 that included pulling glass, weather strip, and doing the door jambs. I needed to get it painted and the estimates I got for a paint job was about $4000. so I didn't think $3500 was to bad for the Line-X. And it has a nationwide lifetime warranty.
I see a lot of people doing Plasti-dip on other forums and when done right I think it looks pretty good. I needed paint and wanted to do something different. I ended up having Line-X do my entire truck and couldn't be happier.
Yeah....Oh well, at least the info is here if anyone needs it in the future. I doubt theres very many of these original kits floating around out there.
This is the original kit, it had the instructions, harness to connect to the lead under the dash and then wire to your controller, and two different relays. One for the trailer brakes that I used and the other smaller relay was for 12v charging of batteries on the trailer.
I have it on my '98. I put it in when I got it in 1999. The harness is already in the truck if you have the tow package. There is a small kit that came with the truck in a plastic bag and it was in the jack compartment. It had the instructions and a relay that had to be plugged into the engine...
I dont know if any of this will help you but I am going to try and drill down the diagnostic tree based on your responses in this thread. If you need a different branch let me know. I know you already got some of this but I figured Id start at the top.
Preliminary info:
There are two types of...
I have had to replace many coil packs over the years on my '98. I have used OEM, local parts places, and ebay and could tell no difference in any of them. For the plugs I changed them at 100K. They all looked great and the gap was good on all of them, I was having no issues it was simply...
For the front end parts I would recommend Moog. I did my entire front end with Moog parts for about $250. They are serviceable/greasable and will likely outlast the truck. I got the parts from advance and used coupon codes so the prices were pretty good.
I had to replace mine, you have to replace the door itself. There is a plastic nub that holds the spring and it snaps off. It is not to bad. You have to remove the radio bezel and the trim around the cluster. After that there are just a few screws holding the main piece on. It seems like a lot...
BBB will be a waste of time unfortinently. The belt molding is the seal thats against the glass on the bottom outside edge. It looks like a squeegee and it runs the length of the window to help keep water/debris out. Inspect that molding were the scratch is and as thermo said with that pulled...
THIS is what I use. You have to get the software and the cable. It's about as close as you can get to what the dealer /Ford uses without spending $1000's.
Mine is a '98 and I did have the windshield leak. As far as recalls there was one for the trailer hitch, one for the lugs, and one for the cruise switch. Those are the 3 I remember.
