    I’m wondering if the thing mentioned above are on the same wiring harness plug? Maybe it didn’t get plugged back in? I checked the fuse chart and it doesn’t seem like these items are on the same fuse. Any ideas?

    The engine temp, even in the New Mexico summer when I got it 10 years ago has been solid up till just a bit ago. I hope we get some good heat now!

    You all hit it on the head. A spark plug on the passenger side was ejected. Ford is the only one around here with the kit to fix it. Around $550 plus two towing charges and I'm running till it happens again.

    The shift motor has been replaced and the four wheel drive works wonderfully. I know because it snowed four days after the fix! Thank you all for the advise and information.

    I have a 1999 EB with the 5.4. I will re-verify that disconnecting the battery allows the four wheel drive to function today. Is a gem module something I can get at a junk yard? Are they expensive when gotten from ford? Thanks for the info!

    My truck has an "a4WD", 4h, and 4l switch. After pulling the battery cable when I turn the switch from a4WD to 4h I can hear the relays switching then the vehicle goes into 4wd and the dash indicator shows four wheel drive. After a day or two nothing at all happens.
