Update: Did some more research and the learned that water leaking from the windshield could get into the GEM and cause problems. Checked my truck and didn't find any evidence of water intrusion. Another day went by and when I checked the truck, the accessories were off and operations had...
2000 Eddie Bauer Expy, 5.4l 4x4 with 153,000 miles. I've owned this truck since 2015 and it has always had a parasitic electrical draw that will drain the battery if the truck sits for more than 3 weeks. I work out of town on a rotational schedule so the Expy does sit for 3-4 weeks at a time...
Wondering if the side view mirrors mounts are the same between a 2000 Expy and 2003 Expy.
I bought Trail Ridge towing mirrors for my 2000 picking the ones that had the same options as my OEM mirrors. However I forgot I also have memory mirrors and there is no Trail Ridge option for that on the...
Thanks. I didn't plan to do a write up originally which is why I didn't get better pictures. Hopefully this will help someone else.
So far I'm very happy with results.
I read somewhere the 5.4L has high oil pressure. i installed a 100psi sender and wow, the gauge shoots right up on cold start. I have a short video but it's late and I don't know how to link or upload right now.
Here's a couple pics after the Expy was warmed up. First pic is hot idle, 2nd pic...
Next is splicing into the harness. At this stage of installation the Accutach installation instructions become a bit vague. Took me a few minutes to figure out the wires I would need to spice into were all on the white connector. The instructions indicated power at start/run could be found on...
The female connectors for the oil pressure gauge get bent back to break the OEM connection to the gauge and the pin holes need to be enlarged. I used a Dremel bit. This process doesn't ruin anything and the gauge could be returned to stock if needed.
i didn't get a picture of wiring the...
Next was the electrical bit. It's been a while since I had the cluster out for the odometer repair so I had to watch a You Tube to remember how everything comes apart.
The plastic housing has to come off and the circuit board separated from the cluster. After the ribbon cable is carefully...
Intermittently my OEM gauge won't show a pressure indication on cold start. First time it happened I freaked out a bit but quickly discovered the issue was electrical and not mechanical.
I didn't want an aftermarket gauge but I did want a fully functional oil pressure gauge. On my 1993 F-350...
Yesterday I discovered I can get the starter to engage if I keep bumping the relay with a screwdriver. Takes a dozen or so bumps but once the starter spins, its good for the rest of the day.
Thanks! I was wondering about that. The price difference between the O'Reillys house brands and the Motorcraft is significant but I'll pay the extra $$$ to avoid having to do the job twice.
little troubleshooting. Found the positive terminal was cracked, it looked tight but wasn't. Installed a universal terminal until I can order a terminal crimping tool and fix this correctly.
However that did not solve the no start condition. Using a screwdriver I jumped the lugs on the starter...
2000 Expy 5.4 Eddie Bauer 144,000 miles
Over the past 7 years of owning this truck very very occasionally when the air temps drop below 20* the starter will not crank. I have a good battery and the connections are good. When I turn the key to the start position, I hear a relay click. Can't tell...
Thanks for the reply. Not looking for answers this time, just sharing what I did, how I did it and why.
Fortunately the Expy is completely stock so I don't have previous owner mods or additions to worry about.
I have a parasitic drain that I have been unable to track down mostly because I haven't put any real effort into looking for it. If the Expy is driven regularly or at least every 2 weeks or so the drain isn't an issue. Let the Expy sit for 3 weeks though and totally dead battery. I work out of...
Another bulb burned out in my EATC so this time I went LED. I have the style where the bulbs are soldered to the PC board. Ordered these from Amazon with no idea how they would look against the incandescent bulbs lighting everything else. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
Partsam...
Thanks for all the replies. Since I didn't read any compelling reasons for not gluing the switch fascia piece back in, I did.
Feels more solid than before and everything went back together perfectly and works correctly.
Only cost me a little time and a dab of JB Weld that I all ready had.
The entire unit comes out. The switch fascia plate has a tab and two screws that attach it to the bezel. I'm assuming it was designed that way so Ford could use the same bezel and install the appropriate switch fascia plate based on vehicle options.
Just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking...
Proper repair not an option right now and I need to park the Expy outside for a couple weeks. Frozen and not frozen water keeps falling from the sky here.
