Sorry, I never came back to update the thread. I ended up replacing the tires with some Continentals in November of last year and the problem went away for the most part. My son no longer is bouncing in his car seat. Maybe the tires were defective, maybe it was just gremlins. Either way I'm...
QFT. Let's all say it together: "tow rating is meaningless without payload." If you're single, no kids, and just want to tow a boat to the lake, or you're retirees with a small-ish travel trailer and little gear in the car, all of the above may suit you well. But if you have a family AND want...
Thanks for the info. I purchased the vehicle new in September last year, all 14k miles are my doing. I'll check the pads out in a couple days (snowing currently).
It was at the local Ford dealership. I don't distrust them, yet.
I'm not opposed to checking it myself but I'll have to read up on it. What tool do you use to check the thickness?
I just had my Expy in for an oil change and the complimentary inspection noted that my front brake pads are down to 7/32". I only have 14k on my Expy and I have young children so I generally drive like a grandpa. WTF? Are others experiencing similar wear on their Motorcraft pads?
If I recall from a prior discussion (1+ year ago) I think the issue with the towing mirrors is due in part to the windshield rake being more on the Expy vs the F150/F250...the triangle where the mirror attaches are different shapes between the trucks and the Expy so it won't fit.
I noticed this too. I don't like that it applies the brakes, at least as much as it does. I can't tell if it also applies the trailer brakes as well but I assume it does. IMHO it stayed on the brakes far too long for my comfort. Trailer drum brakes just don't handle prolonged braking like...
To get mine to stop I double-tap the mirror fold button, to start them folding then unfolding them again.
It sure is embarassing to have a $70k+ car ticking loudly in the parking lot. Mine even started doing it on remote start...used to only do it when I unlocked the car to get in.
Staying tuned for updates. I agree the B&O dynamics are unimpressive...my prior Jeep was noticibly better. With enough EQ from the source (my phone) I was able to get it to sound decent. Onboard EQ does not give enough control. I bet that upgrading speakers will give the most mileage for the...
Do you have your hvac set to front defroster? I find that this helps immensely to prevent build-up on the windshield, although I've never experienced the specific issue you're asking about. The angle of the Expy windshield is steeper (closer to vertical) than other suvs I've owned.
The Expy does have wiper heaters. Just look for the horizontal defroster bars embedded in the bottom of the windshield. However at least on mine the wipers do not sit on top of these wires...maybe 1cm above them. I've spoken to my dealer about it and they told me the wipers' resting position...
Cars are generally designed to understeer when pushed too far so most likely it's the traction control / epsa telling you to dial it down a notch. I agree that the Expy does it more than I'm used to however this isn't exactly a performance-oriented vehicle.
Yeah I was heavily considering the Yukon Denali due to hearing similar things. I wanted the Yukon for towing prowess but my wife didn't like the interior and wanted the Expy instead so here I am. Have to say I'm pretty impressed with the ecoboost so far. I thought for sure I'd be in the 9-10...
Might be something wrong with the trailer. Have you greased your bearings recently? Tire pressure good etc? Maybe it just has the aerodynamics of a sea anchor.
I made a trip from CO to CA and back around Christmas. 6200 lb (measured on scales) travel trailer and fully loaded Expy with...
I hand-calculate mpgs from all my fillups and record them for future reference. I've only taken one long highway-only trip when I wasn't towing, and that one I got 20.6 mpg one way and 20.1 on the way back. Each leg was about 440 miles. SWB 4x4 max tow, usually driving 65-75 on the hwy.
I'd say if whoever drives the truck has to be at the office by a certain time each day, get snow tires. I live down in the Springs and we don't really get enough snow to warrant snow tires, but my wife has to be at work by 7:15 am every day. Her AWD suv has snow tires. It's just better peace...
