Diesel tap, tap, tap on idle

UPDATE: Sorry guys, but I have decided NOT to do it after discovering about the $170 CAD diagnostics fee (since I ran out of base B2B warranty) because it's really rare to get it to tap and I figured it would be a waste of money if they just let the engine cool down and start it once and if it...

Diesel tap, tap, tap on idle

Our powertrain warranty ends in less than a year, but phasers were done about 2 years ago and the rebuild program supposedly covers 100% of the work up until 100,000 km. It only occasionally (quite rare actually) taps at idle and doesn't bother me much. My question is should I leave it till...

Diesel tap, tap, tap on idle

That's interesting. Mine also doesn't rattle upon startup, at least yet. When did you get your cam phasers replaced and what mileage are you at now?

Do you perhaps know when the new phaser design was implemented? Thanks for the quick reply!

Diesel tap, tap, tap on idle

Our Expy occasionally sounds like a diesel, when idling, even after a warm start where the engine was sitting for about less than an hour and the water temp at 1/4 way to hot. Below is a short video from the front driver side wheel well and you can clearly hear it even when standing next to the...

Has anyone had a smooth shifting 10 speed? Do they all do the occasional clunk?

@manuelb There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) from Ford for this issue which affected many Expeditions. Since you have a 2020 like mine with 1 year of powertrain warranty left, I think you should bring it in to the dealer before warranty expires. According to the TSB, they have to do a...

Has anyone had a smooth shifting 10 speed? Do they all do the occasional clunk?

Uuh, so it is bad shift logic/tuning I assume. Thank you for keeping us updated, what are you planning to do next since the software relearn doesn't solve the problem long term?

Has anyone had a smooth shifting 10 speed? Do they all do the occasional clunk?

That is THE EXACT SAME situation as ours, during tip in and downshifts. I think ours happen more frequent than every 5000 miles, though are softer than you describe. Hard ones are rare. Do you know when yours is built? Ours is built around the end of 2019.

Is it possible to separate CCD control from Drive Modes?

Any updates with seperating CCD from the drive modes? I just tried it in sport mode and love the suspension tuning for the corners!

Has anyone had a smooth shifting 10 speed? Do they all do the occasional clunk?

I've never seen that before. How long have you put it in your fluid and is there any chance that you know how it works?

New TSB for CDF drum, 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT

Unfortunately for us, a simple piece of software that Ford didn't include in the pre-facelift 2020 model. The car is totally capable of it, we tried by engaging radar cruise when stopped on a hill and it would hold the car just like the auto hold feature! The electronic parking brake too!

New TSB for CDF drum, 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT

That makes sense I guess, but I wonder what Toyota did differently on our 2016 Rav4 6-speed as well as all our previous Toyotas that would never ever clunk and jerk no matter how hard you are on the parking pawl.

Has anyone had a smooth shifting 10 speed? Do they all do the occasional clunk?

For me, it never happens when accelerating moderately to aggressively. Only when lightly on the gas, but rpms are too low to get anywhere, so it had to clunk a downshift.

New TSB for CDF drum, 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT

SAME!!! When shifting between P or R or D on an incline, my 2020 would clunk which completely burned my mechanical sympathy. The only thing is my powertrain warranty expires in less than a year... Don't know if I should bring it in. I have another thread asking about this...

Has anyone had a smooth shifting 10 speed? Do they all do the occasional clunk?

Wow, I thought the 2024 come with the new CDF drum design that shifts 100% smoothly. Are you planning to bring it in anytime soon? You still have years and years of warranty left, unlike my situation! Please keep us updated, thanks you all!

Has anyone had a smooth shifting 10 speed? Do they all do the occasional clunk?

Wow, I always thought the ZF 8 speeds in the Rams were always the smoothest and they would clunk and jerk too! Do you think this occasional rough shift is normal and I shouldn't bring it in for the TSB? Thanks for the reply!

Has anyone had a smooth shifting 10 speed? Do they all do the occasional clunk?

Considering it, but our Powertrain Warranty has not expired yet so we might as well use it, right? I'm sure the 5 year/60k mile covers the Tranny TSB? We've learned our lesson with not utilising the Bumper To Bumper 3 year warranty and ending up having to pay out of pocket to fix some small...

Has anyone had a smooth shifting 10 speed? Do they all do the occasional clunk?

I recently learned about a TSB for rough shifting 10 speeds. Our 2020 had always been rough since we bought it new 50,000km ago at the end of 2019. A lot of people say it's just how it is, so we just grinned when it occasionally clunks and jerks, until I read about stories on this forum that a...

Quick question on vehicle sounds - interior

Our parking aid now mostly sounds like it's 360 degrees and rarely comes from IPC speaker. Recently, the tailgate beep also came back, but only when closing which is when it's supposed to come on if I remembered correctly, pls tell me if I'm wrong for those who have a faultless Expy. Our battery...

    Battery died

I kept my dash cam plugged into the cigarette outlet inside the center console for 2-3 years now and my original battery seems fine with auto start/stop still working. Does anyone know if the car would still supply power to the outlet after being turned off? Because the camera usually records...

Quick question on vehicle sounds - interior

Oh yeah, I was also planning to do the Sync 3 update and the hard reset by disconnecting the battery as well. Should I do the Sync update first, or it doesn't matter and I'm overthinking this?

Quick question on vehicle sounds - interior

I think our battery is fine, because auto start/stop would still work the one time I reminded myself not to hit the button when in the car. Today though, our 360 degree sensors completely failed, and the instrument cluster said "Park aid failed" with the parking sensor symbol, though you still...

Buying used 4th gen, possible problems like transmission, rear and front end, cam phasers

Brakes are definitely something to check and consider. Many, including ours, are gone at 30,000 miles without any towing at all. That said we do live in the pacific northwest, so a bit more mountainy than Texas. Since you're going for the Platinum with lots of electronics, you should also check...

    Headlights

Hey, I'm also a newbie here. I don't know much about aftermarket headlights, all I know is that it's extremely important to have your headlights properly adjusted to not blind others that also have bad eyesight, especially if the lights are even brighter than stock. You might want repost this...

48,800km (30,000mi) and $2,200 for Pads and Rotors Replacement Quote from Dealer

Haha, I'm sure the last dealer was so nice, they installed new, thicker pads for u at no costs! Joking aside, this is what builds mistrust between the customer and the manufacturer, but the OEMs wouldn't do anything to address this, eventhough these dealers carry a HUGE logo of the manufacture...
