Ok I just totalled my 2003 5.4 2WD two weeks ago. I got it with 136K miles and totalled with 162K miles. During that time I added a Spintech exhaust, GOTTS mod, new COP's and plugs, and kept it tuned.
Now last night I purchased a 2004 5.4 4WD, with 102K miles. It's got the same gears and probably weighs more. This new truck is a 10000% day and night difference in power. The new one has much more power between 2000 and 5000 rpm's. The old one would fall in it's face at 4500 rpm like hitting a wall, and was very weak the entire rpm range in comparison. The new one rev's right past 5100 rpm without even slowing down.
Did Ford change the cams or cam advance in 2004 to allow for a different power band? If not, then maybe my old one had poor compression or worn cams...
