I tried to research this and found another thread that is dead. So here is goes. My El has 74,900 miles and is a limited if that means much to this. I was walking around and heard the ticking noise. Mostly passengers side wheel well. I heard the ticking when cold, but it is more pronounced when warmed up.

The ticking keeps pace with RPMS. Higher.the RPM the faster the ticking. I'll try to attach some video sound clips I have.

Thanks,
Outdare.

Added: I am using 5w30 synthetic oil. Next oil change is due at 75,500. I bought the truck used with 44k miles.

I’m not an EcoBoost expert but im not hearing anything excessive here. Has the engine sound changed recently and is the tick new?

Sounds like every Ecoboost I have been around that has some mileage on it.
Mine included.

That sounds like the cam phasers to me. Some owners say it gets bad enough it starts sounding like a diesel.

I know on the 5.4’s they will get loud on the passenger side first...since that’s the side that’s often starved for oil before the drivers side. Not sure if that is the same for the EB 3.5 but I wouldn’t be surprised.

What kind of oil filter are you using?

You need to look at an Ecoboost forum or Google it, I doubt if there is a lot of experience with it in here.

Thanks guys. I'll get the oil changed and see if it helps.

I saw this post recently. Just an idea, possible the HPFP (fuel pump) may get louder as they age because of lobe wear. Maybe? Maybe not? I don’t hear any cam phaser noise.
