4WD not working correctly

I have AWD, 4WD H, and 4WD L in my 2000 expedition. I tried the 4WD H to see how it was working. Going straight it seemed to work fine, however when i would make a turn a muffled popping sound would occur. Also, when I would let off the gas the car would come to a stop rather quickly as if the brakes were being applied. Anyone have an idea what might be wrong? solutions?

When you turn, check that all your ball joints and there and not missing the rubber padding.
