anyone safely mount a kayak on a safari roof rack on an Expi?

I have mounted 2 kayaks on top to my expy. My dad made a homemade rack out of 2*4 and I believe it just straps to the cross bars and then the kayaks on to that with bungee cords and ropes running to the front tow hooks and to the trailer hitch. Didn't go anywhere at 70mph. I'll try to get them out of rafters and take a pic for you.

This on the original roof racks not a safari rack. It could be changed to mount on a safari rack more than likely.

I mounted my 12ft kayak on the stock rack and drove 60 miles on the highway with no issues. Just used a straps and tied to the rack and then one strap in the front and rear.

A little off topic, but can someone recommend a good affordable safari type rack?

ETA: I'd also like a hard case roof box that has at least a 7.5' interior length for fishing rods.
