Just got a new 7X16 foot box trailer to haul whatever i need to. I was wondering where you guys think mounting an aux trans cooler would do the best. Yes i have the hd tow package(with cooler) just looking to cool the trans as its already been rebulit once. :(

it was mounted behind the bumper where you have that hole in the middle. gets good air flow in there.

JUST4FUN - what have you heard about over cooling - most of the aftermarket tranny coolers have bypass system that if Temp doesn't go high enough it doesn't use all the cooling - but I've done serious research on my past Astro and basically nobody could tell me optimum Tranny Temp - but with the big cooler in my old Astro I used to run around 150-160F - up here in the north eh... had NO issues - and was told that is ideal - cannot confirm any tranny specialists here?

Overcooling a tranny is pretty difficult to do. About the only time it can be a problem is if the fluid is too viscous that it won't flow properly. If it's too thick, the pump can have a hard time moving it.

That being said, usually that has less to do with overcooling and more to do with not having the proper fluid.

With a trailer that size, an aftermarket cooler would definitely be a wise investment. Heat is a transmission's worst enemy. Keep a transmission at an appropriate temperature, the fluid stays healthy, and that leads to the guts lasting longer. Overheating the fluid results in a breakdown and deterioration in the fluid which leads to a rebuild or replace situation.
