DEARBORN, Mich. – Aviator is bringing new life to Lincoln.

Since its launch as the brand's first midsize luxury sport utility vehicle, Aviator has lured new and younger customers into Lincoln showrooms. In fact, one of every two Aviator customers is new to the Lincoln brand.

Aviator is tempting these customers with best-in-class features and unique performance and design advantages that include ample front-seat headroom and legroom, optional bucket or bench seats in the second row, a competitive cargo capacity of 77 cubic feet and best-in-class towing capability of 7,100 pounds.

"Unless you're toting around half a little league team and all of their gear, the Aviator offers plenty of room for escorting you and your family around town," notes Michele Brooke in The Examiner (Tex.).

Available at dealerships now, the 2004 Aviator brags even more upgrades.

The SUV now is equipped with a standard tire-pressure monitoring system, and its DVD-based, voice-activated navigation system includes a touch screen and in-dash six-disc changer.

Large, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors feature a memory system and integrated turn signal repeaters, and the Aviator's rear liftgate is a two-piece design with flip-up rear glass that provides a liftover at shopping cart height for easier loading of smaller items, such as grocery bags.

Designed to complement the flagship Lincoln Navigator, Aviator incorporates similar satin nickel accents, American walnut burl trim, premium leather trim and white light emitting diode (LED) instrument lighting.

"Outwardly, you won't mistake Aviator for anything but a Lincoln," writes Greg Zyla of Lee's Summit Journal (Mo.).

New dark blue pearl and light French silk exterior colors are available in 2004, accented by a signature chrome Lincoln grille and large clear-lens, quad-beam halogen headlamps. A high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamp system is standard on the two- and all-wheel-drive ultimate package Aviator models.

"On the road, get ready for a real driving experience," says Zyla. "We drove Aviator in the bumpy lane on the interstate, and couldn't feel any of the road inconsistencies."

Aviator's 4.6-liter V-8 engine delivers 302 horsepower and a peak torque of 300 foot-pounds at 3,250 rpm. Ninety percent of that torque is available at only 2,000 rpm for towing like no other in its segment.

Currently, the Lincoln Aviator is equipped with Ford Motor Company's Safety Canopy side-curtain air bag system and an optional AdvanceTrac system. Later in the 2004 model year, Roll Stability Control also will become available.

Pricing for the two-wheel-drive 2004 Aviator base luxury model begins at $39,860. An all-wheel-drive ultimate model starts at $45,275 and includes a variety of additional features, such as an Audiofile six-disc CD changer, heated and cooled front seats and the high-intensity headlamp system.

Aviator has achieved volume sales gains nearly every month since its launch at the beginning of 2003, including consecutive record sales months in July, August and September. For more details and to find a dealer near you, visit the Lincoln Web site.
