My 1998 Expedition has a 60/40 front bench with a flip down center arm rest console. This armrest console is "solid", by which I mean it does not open and have storage inside it.

I spent a few wasted hours this morning going from junk yard to junk yard looking for a similar center console but one that opens with storage and looking for a CD changer.

The questions I have are:
1) Did Ford make a similar armrest center console that opened for storage?

2) What is the difference in CD changers? Is it the wiring harness and plugs?

Here is what Hollanders Interchange manual says about what CD changers will fit the 1998 Expedition I have:
1997 - 1998 Expedition
2000 F150
1999 - 2004 F250SD or F350SD
1999 - 2003 F450SD or F550SD
1999 - 2000 Van
1999 - 2000 Grand Marquis
1998 - 1999 Navigator
1999 - 2002 Ranger
1996 - 1999 Sable
1996 - 1999 Taurus
1999 - 2003 Windstar

I went to buy a CD changer, some type of amp, and the wiring harness for $90.00 from a Taurus but the guy decided he did not want to remove the wiring harness....he wanted to cut it so I told him to forget it.

In addition, some other guy told me that yes, the CD changer would work for me but the harness would not.

3) Do I need to check the Hollander Interchange manual for the wiring harness?

And finally,

4) what is the JBL amp this Taurus' CD changer was plugged into?

5) Is that amp needed when I buy a changer?
