One of the few things that has gone bad with my truck is the center console lid assist. Can anyone share thoughts about repairing this?

Replace the hinge. $42 plus shipping from Tasca Parts.

Pry up the plastic around the rear cup holders (it's held in with clips), unscrew the old hinge, screw in the new hinge. I just went through this on my 2010 and it's 10 minutes well spent.

As a followup: Disassembly was reasonable once I figured how to lift the cup holder without damaging the edges. Also wise to prevent screws from falling to the bottom!
I found a tech who actually manufactures springs. I took the hinge with the broken spring and it was replaced on the original hinge. The tech told me it was "engineered to fail". Not enough turns on the original spring.
