Shouldnt have seized, as someone said if you had oil pressure. & as someone said if the guages went all wacko, i would tend to look at the electrical side of the problem, with all the sensors and chips in the newer vehicles, it should have shut itself down before seizing, it may just be a sensor from your tranny overheating from towing, and shutting down the engine, it may have to be reset.
When you say the oil was discolored, how so? was it creamy?

He didn't say the guages went all over the place. He said they all turned over as in normal operation to let us know he's getting power.

How does it sound when you go to turn it over? Does it sound like its trying to move but nothing?

So what did it turn out to be when you thought it locked up? I am in the same situation this week at work with my '99 5.4 EB 4x4. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
