Hi, I just bought a 1998 Expedition with 138k miles with the 4.6. I like to think ahead about what I could do to the vehicle, etc. I am wondering if anyone has info on doing a swap from the 4.6 to the 5.4 when the 4.6 dies or if I just decide to change it out for more power. I am hoping to get at least another 100k out of the 4.6 before this is needed. Thanks.

I haven't come across any articles concerning an engine swap.

I'd work on gettin' another 100K out of the 4.6L first.

if you need go-fast parts for it, there's plenty around. :)

Thanks, Monsta. However, I guess I am being a little slow here because I have not found much of go-fast parts for the 4.6. I believe Procharger makes a supercharger for the 4.6, plus then I can install a cat-back exhaust, headers, an intake kit, plus a new chip. Is there anything else to do in the area of go-fast add-on parts? And, perhaps this needs to be a new topic, but what exactly is an intake kit? Are we talking replacing the intake manifold or just adding a hose and new air cleaner? If so, what does adding a new hose do for you? Headers are not my favorite add-on as my experience on Ford and Chevy engines is they give more problems than benefits: leaks, loosening of bolts, fit, heat, etc. Granted, I have not installed headers on a vehicle newer than 1974 and not since the early 1980's but still.... I have compiled a list of possible add-ons and modifications to make to my Expedition by reading a lot of the Posts on this forum so any info you can provide is helpful. Thanks. Andrew

the intake kit replaces the stock airbox and associated tubing/filter with pieces that flow a LOT better than stock.

you could also look into getting a set of good flowing heads---it'll blow your mind how much power better heads can make.

Hi Scott,

Do you have a thought as to where to get a better set of heads? I am making a list of mods to consider with sources and this is an intriguing idea. Thanks for the input on the intake kit.
