Garage door opener not programming on 2014

I have a Guardian opener with a yellow learn button. I am not able to get any of the programming methods to work. Any ideas?

Make sure you do not skip the step of holding one of the factory controllers up to the opener on your truck first.
For some reason they have to learn the remote first and then you use the learn button on the opener itself.
I had to do this on my parents 14 explorer and kept skipping this step. After I did it - it worked. keep in mind that there is a chance that if you have a wireless remote keypad, it may need to re-learn also afterward.
Hope this helps - seems like these things have become more complex to program.

I dont think I saw a step to do that in the manual. It had either the remote or the learn button. I am missing it somewhere.
