i have a 01 expo xlt. awd. lately it has been making a terrible clicking noise while going slow speeds. VERY audible, especially while in reverse. like a metal on metal noise. now it has also been having a pretty bad vibration between 55-60mph, not below and not over. the clicking sound seems to be coming from the pumpkin on the front drive. what is it called?? U joint is good, but seems like alot of play where the drive shaft goes into that front housing. i am not a mechanic by no means and am very auto-illiberate.. any advice???

You're referring to the differential. I don't believe there should be any play whatsoever in that pinion (where the driveshaft enters the diff.) meaning it sounds like your pinion bearing has gone.
