My Expy Pings with 87 octane.....

Does anyone know if these motors have knock sensors. My truck calls for 87 and it pings. I shouldn't have to move up 89 or higher if it calls for 87. This tells me that its probably got carbon build up and if it does have knock sensors the computer should adjust the timing to suit the fuel am I right.......

Yes, you do have a knock sensor that will pull timing...up to a point.

Clean your throttle body ports for a start.

Im thinking you might have plugged EGR passages

i just cleaned my thottle body and found my egr was clogged bad both port holes filled.

Mine were clogged but didn't cause the engine to ping, but yours could of been worse. Has the pinging stopped?
