Hi everyone!

I hope all is well. I just wanted to say hello as a new member! I was looking for a big, comfy, third car for the family and found a 2006 Expedition XLT. I bought it last week. 39,*** miles for $8,000 advertised - out the door with fees, tax, and DMV for $10,000. Two owners, no accidents, Fort Lauderdale car its entire life. I had to pull the trigger... plus it was for sale literally 10 mins down the road from me.

It is CLEAN. It's like a 2006 time capsule; the rear carpet doesn't even look like it has been stood on, seats much less sat in. One or two small dents on the body (barely visible), couple small paint bubbles on the front of the hood, the inside is mint, and obviously underbody is clean as a whistle as a Florida car. Apparently, it was owned by an elderly woman who was leaving the US to return to her home country and she sold it to the local Autonation Benz dealer. It still had her cane, her SPF 85 sunblock, and some Tony Robbins CDs in the back (pic below).

I'm not normally a base-model guy, but I am glad this one is fairly basic. I used to love sun roofs, but then had several break and cost $$$ to fix so now I no longer like sun roofs :D The manual AC controls are awesome, like a 90's reboot. I HATE having to increase or decrease temperature in stupid one-degree increments in a lot of newer cars. Heated seats?? Come on - yes, they break, and it is always hot here - I'm typing this at almost 11PM at night and its currently 90 degrees outside. Finally, since I live in Ft. Lauderdale rear-wheel drive is fine... this will spend its days lazily driving on COMPLETELY flat roads up and down I95 and the Florida turnpike during the week and to the beach on weekends. A 4WD system on the Expy is just more crap that can break at this point in my life and for where I live.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi all!

Congratulations! Yours is truly a find. I have an '06 XLT also, got it in 2012 with 70K miles in the Dallas, Texas area. At the time, I needed a kid and dog hauler. Did a country wide search for an XLT 4WD with a reasonable number of miles. I live in the Atlanta area and retrieved it from Dallas. It has 123K miles now. It's been far from perfect; however, there's much upside to offset the headaches. I'm sure you'll get lots of recommendations and hear plenty of stories. Stay up to date with the fluids, starting with brake fluid. If it hasn't been changed, have that done first. My spark plugs were beyond shot at 80K miles, don't believe what Ford says to change them at 100K. 6 of the 8 broke coming out--it was a miserable week between Christmas 2013 and New Year's. I had phaser rattle starting around 85K miles, at 100K one phaser gave up--constant tick. I replaced every timing component with OEM, also added a Melling M360 oil pump and replaced roller followers and lash adjusters. Two followers on the passenger side were getting sloppy. Inside of the engine was pretty with no significant varnish, so neglect didn't appear to be a cause. Passenger side exhaust manifold tends to warp, it starts with #4 pulling away from the head. Replaced mine at 120K. Hopefully, you'll have one of the 5.4 3V engines that goes and goes as it was designed to do. Good luck!

Thanks all! Great advice Safari... and yeah I've read these 3v 5.4's can be twitchy, with some owners having no issues and others on a 2nd or 3rd engine, but I think its history, mileage and price justified the purchase. I've seen the Car Wizard's videos mercilessly deriding these engines and that he has replaced 16 of them (or whatever the number is), etc. I barely put 10k on my cars per year, so I'm hoping to get at least 4 to 5 solid years of relatively trouble-free operation before I get much above 80k. I'm cautiously optimistic and where I live never gets cold and there is no danger of rust so fingers crossed! I have a great mechanic who runs an indy shop down the road where I take my other car and he's very familair with these 5.4's so I'm hopeful.

Great low mileage find. I would have taken that deal too.
