A local bank has repoed this vehicle. Minimum bid was 8500. Now they said they just need it gone. 5000 obo.

Here is what I know is wrong.

1. Paint bubble back tail gate.
2. Some minor paint peeling above tire

rims
3. Drivers window won't close. Assuming it is the regulator.
4. Poss brakes

I need to replace my 04 Explorer with a bigger SUV with 3rd row seating for the kiddos.

I am going to see if I can bring it to my local mechanic. The issues mentioned might be worth fixing for the price.

Your thoughts?

It makes me cry a little. My 2000 has next to no rust.

But $5000 is probably a pretty good deal. I paid $4500 for my 2000 with 40K more miles (assuming 130k). If you can get any issues fixed (window and whatever else) then do it. Don't buy it without driving it first though. If you can get your mechanic to look at it, even better.

Looks good! The rusted undercarriage though you should check very carefully for rusted thru areas. Get a mechanic to do a compression test and ask if you could connect a scan tool to view other problems.

Man, that rust up north is tough... It'd check the lines and cables underneath. I looked over my 02 on both kbb and nada.... Nada showed more value on the clean trade in (nada did not have private party as kbb did). I'd run the vin on car fax or something. Being that I've lived years back there and now southwest USA, the difference I see is amazing. Neither kbb or nada asked my location for the price. Most people here refuse to sell for the nada or kbb price. Up there then, I'd would only pay less than those listed prices then.

That's got the 3v engine and I'd guess the plugs weren't done yet... By the age, I'd guess 2 owners... If the first got rid then the second person had a loan (recently) well I would assume no one cared to do that risky maintenance.

Therefore I'd assume that a Compression test on this motor would be a risk, right? How about a vacuum gauge test instead?
