Heelo all I have a 1997 XLT with rear hatch issues and was wondering if anybody had the same problem. The glass and hatch itself does latch but the computer is reading it as open. so my door light and interior lights are on constantly and my rear wiper will not activate because it thinks the door or glass is ajar. DOes anybody have any ideas about resolving this issue or should I replace the guts of the hatch?

never had that problem. but can you check if the wiring to the hatch is chaffed? Had seen similar problems like that.

also, did you get anything done on the hatch recently? might be a loose sensor connector or the door/hatch checks are disconnected

I might be a little late to respond. but hth

It's a door ajar sensor. It mounts on the latch mech. and is easy to replace. It comes on and off with a quarter turn. You will have to remove the plastic door panel though.
