The hood may be closed but the hood pin may be faulty and not sending that signal. Brake switch could also be faulty. Both are very easy to test with a multimeter, nothing fancy needed. Those are the 2 most common fault points of a remote start system and in my experience about 3/4 of the time its the hood.

Typically if the good latch/pin is bad you'll see a message in the info center but being its so easy to check and rule out I'd start there w a meter and not rely on message or you may be chasing a potentially simple problem forever.

If the key fob is communicating with the truck and he is getting a diagnostic honk from the system the fob isn't the issue. The fob itself won't prevent a start if its getting to this stage, it either sends the command or it doesn't and is not part of the "brains" so to speak. The RS start module contains the key data and injects it into the pats system as its energized from the remote command. Its reporting a specific error code w the honks.

Just to be clear, you’re pressing “lock, start, start,” right?

With mine you don’t have to do that but yes I’ve tried that. In the manual it says if vehicle is already locked it will remote start with the start command. Don’t have to hit lock first

For starters, I'd check the hood switch and then the wire to the break light switch for power or ground.
Where is the hood switch? I looked around and all I see is a couple springs, the latch and the cable going to the lever inside the cab that opens it. I see nothing that looks electrical.
If there was an issue with the break light switch wouldn’t my brake lights not work?

I bought a new 2015 Ford Expedition Limited 4x4. It did not come equipped with a hood ajar warning light or switch. The factory alarm system does have a plunger switch on on side of the engine compartment (mounted on the fender lip and covered with a rubber sleeve). That may be the switch that determines if the hood is ajar.

Ford only put a hood ajar safety warning system on their high-end models such as the Escort and Focus.

Popped the hood and got to looking around and found this just hanging down in the engine bay. Got it mounted up and remote start is working again. Thanks for the help

I had the same thing happen when the dealer replaced one of the exhaust manifolds on my 2014 Limited. The horn would honk twice whenever I locked the vehicle meaning something was open. Drove me nuts for awhile. The dealer found the same thing on mine and when they hooked the switch up it took care of the hood open double horn beep. I didn't try the remote start but mine also works now.
