I've had my 01 Eddie Bauer for about 8 years now. It is only used for short trips here and there and towing the boat and trailers. I'm thinking of removing the factory running boards to give it a little more clearance and just to change things up with the looks. Does anyone have any photos of their 1st gen with no running boards?
Thanks in advance

No photo but it looks clean without them. It even makes your vehicle looked jack up a little from the more clearance.

The only thing I was worried about is how much of the frame is visible. It looks like those boards hide a lot of the underside

I recently removed mine. Like he said above you will need rust inhibitor and flat black paint for the frame. It looks really clean and less like a soccer mom’s suv with them off.

I cheated on the build and got a welded hoop and mounting kit from XO fan in Enumclaw Wa.
I think it's for the Tacoma, I had to shorten it a little bit when I went to 37s..
quick tip is to use the factory brackets to hold it in place for welding.
The absolute easiest way would be to weld the hoop to the factory bolt on mounts.
I bet I could mount a set in 2 hours. I just like making things more difficult by wanting them closer and angled up.
