Okay Gents, today, after changing my oil, I ran my 5.4 '00 EB thru an automatic wash. I made the mistake of keeping the truck's engine area located above the chassis sprayer a little too long (to clean the over-spill from the filter).

Well, within the hour my beast started idling roughly while in gear and it registered a P0301 fault.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the issue(s) is/are?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That code is for the #1 plug. Pull the coil and dry it out, check if any water is sitting down on the plug too. These top plug engines do not like water on them at all. If the seal surface around the coil boot is bad, ie no di-eletric greese then you will get a miss almost every time you wash her.

Very common condition. Search "dielectric grease" posts for PROPER dielectric grease application and replace the COP boot with a new one.

It could be that all COP boots on your truck are breaking down. Consider replacing all eight while you are at it. A new set is cheap enough.

I have heard of guys power washing their engines with confidence after correctly grease sealing new boots. Not sure I would do that, but I haven't experienced any misfires since I replaced all 8 COP boots. Before replacement I didn't even need to wash the engine to throw a misfire code. Damp and foggy weather was enough to cause trouble codes.

Yep, that did the trick. it also gave me the opportunity to inspect my COPs. I've ordered some off eBay for about 50.00. Looks like my weekend is planned out!
