Door Panel Removal

Does anybody know the proper way to unclip the interior door handle prior to removing the door panel? Do you just slide something like a putty knive above or below the handle and pop it out of the retaining holes?

The door handle doesnt need to be removed to remove the door panel. Pop off the little black square cap behind the chrome handle to access the screw. Then you can use a pry tool to pry the silvery surround off.
