I just purchased an ex-police cruiser 2004 Expedition. It was in service with the Burleigh County, ND Sheriff's Department. I drove a Crown Victoria previously, but I needed something with 4WD. I have loved this body style of Expedition for quite a while, and I finally found one.

By the way, it is not going to stay black and white. It will get an all-white paintjob in the spring.

I'd go all black. And maybe paint the valence. The whites are very base model look. Any special engine in it?

Welcome to the forum! I second Avro with going all black and painting the plastic trim to match, but that's just my preference. Either way, welcome to the forum and I hope you'll like it here.

I would paint it all black, but the door jambs, etc are all white, and I prefer to have the entire truck matching. Even if there are only a few places that don't match. I do intend to paint the trim along the bottom white as well though to get a Limited-esque look.
Also, would these work on the truck? I know the Expeditions have the 6x135mm lug pattern, and those wheels have 6x5.5in lug pattern. And for the offset, will they stick out too far and look strange? Any help would be great.

You could paint it the white/diamond tricoat colour that ford offers on the limiteds. Might not be as noticeable as the black on white.

I'll have to think about it, as I won't be getting it painted until the spring. I forgot to answer your question as well. No, there is no special engine, just the normal 2V 5.4. I believe that the SSV is just an XLT with the HD towing package.

I'm pretty sure the 03+ tritons are 4 valve. Nice truck btw, did it come with the police options and stuff still in it?

No, the strobes, push bumper, console, etc were all taken off before I bought it. About the only leftovers are strobe holes from the hideaways, and a hole in the driver's seat from the officer's gun.

I don't think the 3V came until 2005?

Also since it seems a bit noticeable, maybe paint the underbody frame with some Rust Olem?

Don't they normally upgrade stuff like the tranny, radiator and other items to stronger industrial size items? I know they do that with their crown vics, but not sure about the suv's

I'm pretty sure that the SUVs aren't upgraded like that, mainly because they aren't pursuit rated. They aren't designed to be driven hard.

You're right, none of the expy's are pursuit rated. Ours has a HUGE sticker telling us that right on the upper windshield in bright red letters!

Other than that it'll just have the towing package stuff, HD batt not sure about a high amp alt.

You might ask why I know this...
