A/C blowing out defrost

This 03 expy is my wifes, I don't drive it. She reported the A/C is not blowing from the panel vents. Internet searchs pointed to a vacuum leak. First time I removed the battery and found several vacuum lines coming out of the firewall. Also found the black box vacuum reservoir which is attached to the battery box frame. I used a hand vacuum pump used to bleed brake lines and pulled a very good vacuum on the box. Hooked this up to the small line and was not able to pull a vacuum so I looked at the plastic line again but did not find and damage. So now I'm thinking it's under the dash and I start looking into finding the vacuum lines. That was going to be alot of work so I decided to look under the hood again. Removed the battery and examined the vacuum line again, sure enough there it was. On the inside radius of a bend were 3 very small cracks. Snipped the line, worked a jewelers screwdriver into the boot to break the glue and installed on the line again. Good to go, the wife is happy and all is good.:rockband:

same problem but broke off at firewall

My '03 vacuum line busted off inside the rubber bushing at the firewall. Any idea how to get to it from the interior side? Looking behind the glove box didn't yield anything.

Can you get to the vacuum tube behind firewall. If so how did u do it? Thanks

ran a line through a lower hole to the existing one

A friend of mine was able to get his hand up behind the air box under the dash and pull the inside part of the line back from the fire wall while keeping it attached to the air "door" valve. We then ran the smallest id line we could find (still not as small as original) from the T connector in the engine compartment through a hole we found lower in the firewall (maybe it was the heater coil water pipe opening) and ran it up to the broken line end and connected it with a rubber fitting.
Good news: I have air through the front vents and can change to defrost, heater, etc.
Bad news: On max setting the air will dissappear from the dash vents and go back to exiting the defroster when you hit the gas, but will return after you've held the throttle steady for a bit. Recirculate does not opperate. However, when the setting is on normal it will continue to blow through the front vents under all driving/throttle conditions, and recirculate does not opperate. Car is cooler, anyway.
I think the id of the replacement line is too large to hold a vacuum on the air distribution valve and keep the outside air vent closed (max setting) at the same time when you hit the gas.
Thoughts, anyone?
