First I am new to the site, but I've come here before to find out some info on certain subjects so I figured I might as well join. We are looking at getting a new Expedition in the next few months. I really like the 2015 model more so because of the changes to the interior, but my only draw back is the V-6 that they are putting in the truck. So now I am torn as to wait for the 2015 or look at getting a 2014 with the V-8. I am a little hesitant getting a full sized SUV with a V-6. I know it delivers V-8 power, but it just seems strange to me. My gut feeling is to go with the V-8. I was wondering what you guys think? Go with the 2015 or go with the 2014? I'm at a crossroads here. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, hudson76. I'm Todd, the Ford rep for Ford Expedition Forum. My friends here are sure to chime in with their thoughts, but I wanted to point you to the Expedition's official site here, where you can sign up for updates.

I would not think of the 3.5 EcoBoost V-6 as a drawback. It’s a major improvement over the old Triton V-8.

The 3.5 EcoBoost V-6 that will be going into the 2015 Expedition is same one used in the F-150 (its actually the premium engine offered in the F-150) and the same one that was used in the Vegas to Reno off-road race (which it won), Baja 1000, and Tecate 1000 endurance off-road races. All of which were successful.

Now more than ever, people are opting for V-6s over their V-8 counterparts in the full-size F-150. Sales of V-8 F-150s are down compared to V-6 F-150s. All told, V-6 engines now make up well over 50 percent of all F-150 sales.

The 430 lb-ft of torque the 3.5 EcoBoost V-6 makes will allow the Expedition to outclass its rivals in towing capability. 90 percent of that 430 lb-ft is available at just 1,700 rpm, and all 100 percent of it is available all the way to 5,000 rpm. It has a very "diesel-like" torque range.

3.5 EcoBoost V-6 torque output vs. others (in greatest to least):

2015 Ford Expedition .............. 3.5 EcoBoost V-6 ........... 370 horsepower, 430 lb-ft of torque
2015 Mercedes-Benz GL 450 .... 4.6 BiTurbo V-8 .............. 362 horsepower, 406 lb-ft of torque
2015 Toyota Sequoia .............. 5.7 i-FORCE V-8 ............. 381 horsepower, 401 lb-ft of torque
2015 Dodge Durango ............... 5.7 HEMI V-8 ................. 360 horsepower, 390 lb-ft of torque
2015 Nissan Armada ................ 5.6 VK56DE V-8 ............. 317 horsepower, 385 lb-ft of torque
2015 Chevrolet Tahoe .............. 5.3 EcoTec3 V-8 ........... 355 horsepower, 383 lb-ft of torque
2014 Ford Expedition ............... 5.4 Triton V-8 ............... 310 horsepower, 365 lb-ft of torque

might be a V6...but its a SOOPED UP V6 and the numbers prove it above ^^

change ur mindset of hearing V8 and knowing that means more power...better performance and fuel economy...

Welcome to the forum! I've had a hard time myself grasping the V6 vs V8 concept and power thereof. I'm on the fence too, BUT I'm leaning in the direction of the V6. Consider this....F1 cars are powered by 1.6 L V6s. They've got some serious power. The numbers speak for themselves - there is more power in the V6.

I've had my 07 about 6 months and like the 5.4. With that being said, I would not have an issues with going to the ecoboost since they are not offering the 5.0.

I have driven a few ecoboost f150 trucks and I wish they put it into the expeditions earlier. It has a ton of power and torque and dosent feel underpowered at all. And the MPG would be so much better.

I've been thinking the same thing. I have a 2000 XLT with the 5.4 that I picked up in 2006 with 52,000 miles on the clock and absolutely love the big beast, but she is getting old and will need to be replaced soon. Time and road salt have taken their toll on the old girl. But the numbers on that EcoBoost engine look pretty impressive, and it looks to be a bit lighter than the current 5.4. But what I really want to know is when are they going to offer a diesel option?

I have an 05 with the 5.4. In a HEARTBEAT (not a Chevy pun), I would trade it in for the Ecoboost.

Why not wait and try out the V6?

The only 'real' benefit of the old V8 is that it's been around forever and will likely be much more reliable.

The turbo 6 will be more powerful, faster, and get a mpg or 2 better. You might sacrifice some longevity though. Turbos, + I've read that fuel dilution in the oil has been an issue.

Found this a little bit ago, and nevermind about my question regarding the diesel being an option in the Expedition. This looks better! :happy107:
2016 Ford SVT Bronco Coming Soon

That article post from Fourwheeler.com was an April fools joke (posted on April 1st). Going by the comments, it fooled a good bit of people

The next-generation (fourth-generation) Expedition is due around 2017 for the 2018 model year, and will use an all-aluminium body with high-strength steel frame, just like the 2015 Ford F-150. Its also expected to take some of it's styling cues from the 2015 Ford F-150 as well...

Its expected to look similar to this preliminary concept rendering:

I figured that out a couple hours after I posted that; Somebody at Four Wheeler magazine deserves to be smacked with a canoe paddle for that one!:biggun: But the next generation design does look pretty sharp.

OP - Truthfully it depends on what you want your Expy to do. I just picked up a '13 and if I had the choice with all things being equal, I would take the V-6 in a heartbeat. The only reason I went with the '13 and didn't wait for the '15 is because with the HD towing package, the '13 covers my towing needs, and since the '15's are just around the corner, they are HEAVILY discounting the '13's and '14's and Ford is running 0.0% financing out to 72 months. Between the discount and financing, if your a modder, that's instant mod budget (with some left over), if you're an investor, that's more money to work for you. I figure its going to take more than a couple of years to make up the dollar difference with the extra benefit in gas mileage from the discounts and financing. Just my .02 having just gone through what you're looking at
