How's it that the navigator has had the same engines as the expedition and yet you say it requires premium?? I'm lost and confused.

It's not the same engine. The Expedition has 3 valves per cylinder whereas the Navigator has 4 valves per cylinder. Even still, the Navigator is tuned for premium fuel. So the OP was correct.

Well considering this is a 3rd Gen thread and poll, I think the question Lc'S'08 asked may have been directed at 3rd Gen Expy's and Nav's (07-up) and for that they both share the same engine ( 3V ) No premium fuel in either. Prior generations there was a difference but not anymore.

I am using the canned superchips 1100 module , Got it on ebay ( got lucky with programming ) $30 , noticeable difference ,they claim 10 - 12 hp and another 20 ft/lb torque , but the biggie is the shifting of the trans , much firmer - dictates premium , averages out to an extra $4 per tank .

Ethanol free 92 is like a totally different truck but im with panda on midgrade i usually get midgrade ethanol free its more pricy but damn the pedal and the mpg are both incredible... Toms you ever tried the race fuel at the 1/4 mi. you went to?

No one here uses Costco gas?

Mileage seems average for me and I use Costco, my buddy used to get to clean gas station holding tanks once in a while and he said Costco's were the cleanest he saw, not that they were cleaned often but the gas they used had very low moisture and debris in it.

Yes sir. Have mixed in 101 unleaded with fuel in tank for appr. 50/50 mix.

I recently began experimenting with Torco Accelerator and find it really works well. I have been able to get fairly aggressive with my ignition timing with no hint of detonation. Two thumbs up from me for use with boosted engines! And theoretically I can achieve octane levels equal to running straight race fuel (unleaded).

For some reason, 87 octane winter gasoline runs awful in my truck. I am lucky if I see 6-7 mpg's. It is probably due to my O2 sensors not reading correctly but not really sure. I switch to 89 in the winter and go right back to my normal of around 11-13 mpg's. Summer 87 gets me those same numbers. I even got 14mpg's the last tank! Haha.

With Ethanol at 10-15 percent, you knock off up to 5 percent off the top for HP and mileage due to the lower BTU rating per gallon. Finding non ethanol gas will pick up power and mileage with one fell swoop. And engines run smoother. Just the way it is.

Google would have all of the proof you need. Higher octane is designed to allow for higher compression motors to run without early detonation. If you increase octane without increasing compression, no more power is made. Stick with 87.
