Behind the Throttle body there is a collar on a tube with a red and a blue cover on little tubes. What is this for?

that is the tracking unit that gets instaled on all squad cars

Good. Then the service guy can show up and fix my "miss" problem.

As your looking at the engine in the left valve cover is the PCV valve check it and the plastic hose all the way to the t-body. your looking for cracks in the line that causes vacuume leaks ...Larry

I'm pretty sure the PCV is on the passenger side valve cover isn't it? I checked the valve itself (it rattles freely) but not the hoses. Would that cause a miss?

I got confused, you said left side valve cover.

Our work expedition developed a miss at speed which turned out to be a COP however they replaced the whole set and all the plugs to discover this.

Umm I was just messing with those hoses today. I have two large leaks off of the pcv.
Im not sure off hand on the red one but I do have a hose running off of it. Ill check tomorrow to see where it goes. As for the blue cap I have a hose running from there to right beside my thermostat. From the looks of it at the thermostat end looks to be coolant running in it and was hot to the touch.

I didn't get to the junk yard this weekend like I wanted to. Hopefully they have a 5.4 I can look at. My neighbor has a 97 Expedition, but it's a 4.6 so I don't know how similar, if at all, their motor would be.
