I'll be taking delivery of a 17 EL in a few days... and I love mods! Just curious though... As the air that's being bled off has already gone through the mass air sensor, doesn't this need to be fed back through the intake? When I put the blower on my 89 GT, the blow off valve had to be plumbed back into the intake to avoid a rich condition. The Mass air meter had added fuel based on the volume of air. When the air is vented into the atmosphere, the ECM doesn't know that... the fuel that was required based on the initial airflow reading would still be sent. I'd expect a CE light no? or am I completely missing something?

Be carefull, this may (most likely does) lead to a lean condition when the BOV is utilized, especially at partial throttle. The air being vented is metered air (has run through the MAF and has been measured and compensated for) and now that pressurized air is being released to the atmosphere instead of back to the intake system. Yes, the oem system flows back in BEFORE the MAF, but that helps to maintain correct air flow and pressure inside the intake system.
This has been an argument on the Subaru forums for years. I ran both styles on my Forester, and did see the lean condition in my real time monitoring. Its up to you, but know that there are hazards to what you are doing.

Boose, Congrats on your new truck. I've had mine since February and I am very happy with my purchase and decision. This is my second Expedition and my 5th SUV - the first three were Mercedes ML350s and my Expedition is every bit as high a quality as the Mercedes ever were. Good Choice!
Thanks Andy! I have an 05 Eddie Bauer now that Ive been happy with. Other than the initial 3V 5.4 issues she's been a great ride. Looking forward to some Eco Boost, love this motor. We rented a 17 on vacation over the summer... what a difference in economy! We averaged 21 MPG and witnessed 24 on the hwy. I've been seeing an average of 13 with my 05!

I traded my 05 Eddie Bauer for the 17. Mileage on the highway was dropping from a high of about 16 down to about 14 - the Engine had 146K on it and I knew it was going to need a tuneup and I didn't want to put the money in it because of it's rust issues. Mine was Blue with a tan interior.

Yup, I parked an '03EB when I bought my '17. You are going to love having that 3.5 under your foot again. Great engine for this truck IMHO.

No check engine light. And honestly, it only vents for about 1 sec after you let off the throttle if it's built up enough pressure to vent. You can slam it to the floor through every gear and only hear it vent when you let off the throttle slowing down. It doesn't vent after every shift in gear. The BOV to intake tube is plugged and I doubt that the little amount of air being blown off will cause a rich condition. Still getting 17-18 in the city and 24 highway with it installed
My 05 is Oxford White/Tan with the saddle interior. It's at 135k now. I did the phasers/timing components/oil pump etc, as well as the updated throttle body all right around 100K. Then the transmission went at 125K... there's a good amount of rust underneath and the mileage & performance just isn't there any more. I am having the new truck modified to allow easier transport for my disabled son. They are modifying the passenger side door hinges to allow 90degrees of swing and installing a replacement passenger back seat (the truck has 2nd row captains chairs). The new seat will rotate and extend/drop out to allow my son to transfer in from his wheelchair. We really wanted to get the 2018 Max but the mobility manufacturer would not have the new chair for the 18 for 12-18 months and we can't wait... waiting to see what the final price will be but the deals on the 17 leftovers are impressive to say the least.

At 146K my 05 was still running strong we were making 3 and 4, 1100 mile trips from Indiana to PA a year. It still had the original tranny and the motor had never been touched. I'm not even sure, it might have had the original plugs in it. I was the 5th owner if I remember correctly. It started off as a factory program lease in Michigan before making its way to Indiana. It had the typical tick and dealer suggested that I do the Cam Phasers in about 20K miles. The rockers, radiator supports, and the floorboard on the passenger side was rusting pretty badly. I felt it wasn't worth putting 8-10 grand in rustoration and then another 2-3 grand in the engine. Liftgate was bubbling badly, the hood had some bubbling paint - the rest of the paint was great. SO, we decided (I decided) to buy a new one. My wife wanted to get a used one but when I looked at the going price of a 1-2 year old expedition with 20K - 30K miles on it the new ones looked even better.
That's cool they can modify your truck to give you the ability to get your son in and out comfortably. That is just amazing they can do those things.
So have you purchased your truck and they are working on it or are still looking for the truck to buy?
Here's a picture of my 05 - I upgraded it to the 20" King Ranch wheels from a 2010 F150.
We are in the process right now, my "couple of days" comment is very optimistic. We are back at the dealer to finalize tomorrow. Then it will be the time of the hinges & swapping out the seat before we actually take delivery. There are only 2 EL's that we are looking at as there aren't too many 2017 EL's with 2nd row buckets left in the area... They are both Platinum's. One is Magnetic with Ebony interior, the other is the White Platinum with Brunello interior. I may keep the 05 as a beater as it still runs ok... just feels like it's long in the tooth. We use our truck as a primary transport for my son to get back and forth to the children's hospital where he is treated. Unfortunately we have had to use the truck as our own ambulance for him. We need 100% reliability and I am starting to have doubts on the old girl. I did all of the timing components myself as I didn't like the noise. It never had a check engine light or even a hiccup. I read up on the root cause and the bad tensioner o-rings. I did the plugs at 98K and the timing components about a year later. I replaced the throttle body in 07 as part of the TSB. Did your 05 ever just stall out when your foot came off the pedal? There was a problem in the early 3valve 5.4 TPS that caused it. I think it was resolved in late 06... My 05 was built in December 04 so I think it was a pretty early model for that motor.

Andy I've never seen your 05 you mention so much. LOVE the color coordination on that truck. The tan bottom looks great. My favorites were the 2nd gen limited ones with the cream white color and they had color matched grilles.

In the 3-1/2 years I had it I never had any engine issues at all. I did have to replace the air compressor for the air suspension and I had a rear axle half shaft that I had to replace, and the dealer replaced the left rear wheel bearings and the bearings in the transfer case but that was it. I thought about tackling the cam phasers myself. It would have been a fun project but the thought of having to remember where everything went when I put it back was more than I wanted to contend with at this point.
The White Platinum Metallic color has really grown on me and I'm glad I have it. I wouldn't have picked if I could have found the Blue Jeans color, but that Magnetic is color is a great choice too. I have the black interior - the dealer hear has a thing about white exterior and black interior vehicles.

Thanks JExpedition, That was my first Expedition and it was perfect for me. I still like that color and miss it but I don't miss the rust.
For being 12 years old it still had a great shine to the paint and if it was for the bubbling paint on the liftgate, and the missing part of the lower front valance, it still looked new.

That was where I was. I caught a great sale, $100 below factory invoice a $6000 rebate, it was a cash deal so there was some wiggle room on the trade, but you had to buy something that was on the lot and they only had the Limited EL in white and a black regular wheel base Limited. I don't remember what they had at the other store but, this was the best choice - although for the $4K difference in sticker price I would have rather had the Platinum. But I am happy with mine now and will probably keep it for a long time now.

You Sir, are correct. I looked it up and it turns out Ford changed from MAF to MAP in/around 2011/2012.
I stand corrected.
I guarantee everyone thinks it sounds just like a Paul Walker F&F ricer. Don't knock it till you try it or at least here it.
