I can't get my middle row seats to fold completely flat like they did on my 2003 XLT. The seatback will fold forward but not completely flat. Am I missing something or don't they fold flat? If the they're designed that way is there anyway to get them to lay flat? Thanks in advance.

They should fold flat. There should be a handle or a lanyard to pull. My 17 has a big handle on the back of the seat hat you have lift up while pushing down on the seat.

Maybe I’m wrong, but if I remember correctly I can’t even fold mine unless the headrest is folded first. Pull the headrest strap to fold it, then pull the seat lever up and it will fold the seat and kind of slide it forward ish to lay flat.

Wait, I have captains chairs...maybe yours is different?

Phone book? What's that?

-- Chuck
An archaic and obsolete construct consisting of pages of paper glued together on one long edge that listed names with phone numbers in alphabetical order. It reached it's height of popularity towards the end of the 20th Century before being replaced with the Internet...

Andy and Bean,
Thanks for your responses they answered my question. Now I know how to get the seats to lay completely flat by lifting the handle on the back of the seat. I bought my Expedition used and didn't get an owners manual to see the instructions. My 2003 has a lanyard at front and bottom of the seat you pull to lower the seat and that was what I couldn't find.
Thanks again.

When you experiment with the wide variety of second row settings available, beware of the recline return....

If you recline a second row seat and then pull the lever expecting it to snap back but don't actually have any weight on the seat back, it'll come back up....and, contrary to expectation, might NOT lock at upright and instead tumble forward with significant force

It can whack you pretty good. Knocked the sunglasses right off my nose and gashed me deep enough to leave a small scar
