If you don't have the power lift gate, or you have disabled it in the settings, then clicking the lift gate button twice on the key will unlatch the lift gate glass.

To open (unlatch) the rear glass from the outside keypad in the drivers door

[x][x][x][x][x] 6

Your door code followed by the number 5/6 button. I have a 5 digit door code. Not sure if these are defaults. My code only unlocks the driver's door.

Code = drivers door. Followed by:
3/4 = oven all other doors
5/6 = unlatch rear window

7/8 + 9/10 locks everything. But the rear window is still unlatched unless you manually close it.

Just tried that on my 17...no worky for the rear window. Are you sure that works on your 17?

I haven't tried it yet, but I wonder if he is using the original code that came with the vehicle or one he programmed in to the system?

Just tried it on my 2003 XLT with OEM code - works.
Also tried on my 2014 EL with programmed code - works.

works, means the 5/6 pops the rear liftgate window
nice info for me since liftgate button doesn't work & remote doesn't have button

So odd, this is not working on my truck. The code unlocks it as expected, and pressing 3/4 unlocks the other doors, as expected. But pressing 5/6 does not pop open the lift gate window.

Absolutely works 2017 XLT with power lift gate -- just like it did on my '07 Expedition and earlier 2002 Explorer. I walked outdoors in my bathrobe and verified it this morning seconds before posting -- knowing you doubters. :)

I changed the code to my own. Same code I've used since 2002. Simplifies things getting into the truck without keys -- like this morning.

No Forscan used and no trucks were harmed.

On Ford cars equipped with keyless entry, the 5/6 button was designed to pop the trunk . It's been doing that at least since the early '90s and maybe as far back as the 1980s. When our SUVs came around, they decided to connect this function to the liftgate glass instead of having it release the liftgate. When I first got my '09 XLT that confused me and I kept popping the rear glass open by mistake. . .

Neither the 2016 nor 2017 Owner's Manuals mention the "5/6" button trick in the "Keyless Entry" section. For trucks with manual liftgate, pressing the appropriate button on the remote 2 times pops open the liftgate window. For trucks with power liftgate, this same button opens the liftgate:

Ok I use the glass all the time because I’m always afraid to open the liftgate and have everything in my trunk dump out onto the parking lot so I really need to try this trick...experimenting tomorrow...

Code panel on exterior XLT drivers door.

On my '07 Expedition and '02 Explorer (only change I made was to the PIN code)::
Unlock Code -- Drivers door (only)
3/4 -- Remaining doors
5/6 -- Rear window (unlatch)
7/8 -- Rear lift gate (unlatch)
7/8 + 9/0 -- Lock all doors and latches except rear window. *

On my '17 (only change I made was to the PIN code):
Unlock Code - Drivers door (only)
3/4 -- Remaining doors and allow lift gate button on rear handle to work.
5/6 -- Rear window (unlatch)
7/8 -- NA (truck has power lift gate) **
7/8 + 9/0 -- Lock all doors and latches except rear window. *

* Rear window must be latched to lock
** Unable to find a key on this keypad that opens the lift gate.

Since I've discovered no way to ****** with these codes other than my PIN I assume they're OEM. ;)

Just confirmed on the '17. Street clothes, no bathroom this time of day. :)

Lift gate window worked on both my 15s (Plat and XLT) with either OEM or programmed code. Thanks @chuck s for this tip :happy107:, I had no idea.

The 5/6 trick doesn’t work on the 2017 with the Intelligent Access Key/Proximity Key...only works on those with a Key Fob/IKT...chuck s...confirm you have the key fob/IKT on your 17?

I have no "fobs." All remote controls are on the key.

I posted a photo of the keys in the past day in a related thread.

3 rows of buttons on key:
Lock --- Unlock
2x Remote Start
Panic --- 2x Power Liftgate

The key information starts on Page 52 of the 2017 Owners Manual (section is astonishingly called Doors and Locks ;) ) and describes the key I have as well as the fobs others have depending on how the truck is equipped.
