2008 Ford Expedition shuttering in overdrive in low rpms

So mine is doing it too. Same symptoms. 2008 with 163,000miles. Not knowing if it's ever had a filter and fluid change before, is there too many miles to do one now?

I changed mine for the first time at 160,000 miles (about 1,500 miles ago)I didn't do a flush but had the pan and filter dropped. If you have an 07-08 you have to use Mercon SP fluid.

For you, with an unknown age fluid...possibly factory fluid, I would change the fluid, filter, and clean the pan out. Do not flush or go to Jiffy Lube and have it sucked out. Flushing will tend to loosen a blizzard of particles which have found a comfortable place to ride, and these can cause clogs in the tranny. Drop the pan, scrub it out, new filter and fluid. Have a shop do it. Its a nasty job.

When I had my wifes' Mounty done, I had to order the fluid, no one local carried it in stock.

As Jexp said, use nothing but Motorcraft MERCON SP. Do not use anything else. That means any brand that says "compatible for use in MERCON SP transmissions". They do not work, and you'll end up buying a new tranny. For peace of mind, check your owners manual for the correct fluid type. I don't doubt Jexp, but there are several Motorcraft fluids that are unique. MERCON SP, MERCON V, and MERCON LV are specific fluids and should not be substituted to save a few bucks.

A funny story, ford actually discontinued mercon SP a few years back and stated Mercon LV superseded it...... let's just say ford ended up footing the bill on many destroyed transmissions. They started making it again soon after. Hence your right, even Mercons are not compatible.
