How bare bones can an Expy get?

Just bought a 2007 Expedition EL. V8 with AWD, MP3 player, and that's pretty much it for the options list.

What doesn't it have? The list of nopes...

Power running boards, lights on the side mirrors, leather seats, sunroof, entertainment system, navigation system, any sort of cellphone connected anything, steering wheel radio controls, heated seats, key/fob-less entry.

The more I look the more things I'll probably find it does not have. Great! Less frippery to fail and cost a lot to repair. I put the power folding 3rd row seats down and they'll probably stay there for a long time. 160K miles, Pueblo Gold Clearcoat Metallic, decent tires. Bought it for a road trip to Wisconsin. Runs and drives great! The dealer said they put new spark plugs in. They deal primarily in tarted up pickup trucks and a few SUVs, only got this base Expedition because of how good it looks - and then it sat on their lot for over 3 months while they kept dropping the price.

Looks like you win. I had a 05EB and it was 2wd with no heated seats. I bought it after a quick test drive as I was time crunched only to find out it was Eddie Blawww...er. Have a limited now and I enjoy all my accessories.

Nice truck but just as a precaution, I'd take a peek at those new plugs...just to see, and I'd smell the coolant for sealer....just to quiet my own head.

I stopped driving my '03EB last year though and all the bells and whistles still worked with the exception of the CD platter player so I'm not sure how many of those bullets you are dodging but you got a really nice truck and WTTC!

You have remote keyless entry, it was a standard feature. The previous owner evidently held onto the fobs for sentimental reasons. But don't try to add your own as the onboard flippery is prone to fail and batteries are super expensive.

I helped a friend of mine outfit an 08 Expy with a bunch of electronics a year or so ago as it was gonna be a Baja chase vehicle. It didn't even have an AC. That's pretty bare bones

I have one fob and one key. Doesn't have the row of buttons on the driver's door. First Ford I've had in a long time without that. Getting a second key programmed is going to cost me about $50 at a dealer. I have a VCM2 clone I've used to program keys on a 1998 Ford but it probably doesn't have the software support for a 2007. When I get a second key programmed, adding more should be simple.

Dunno why so many people when they trade in a car will keep all but one key and fob, or keep all the fobs. One of my grandfathers would always keep the jack from every car he traded in. Had about a dozen different jacks in his garage when we cleaned out his place after he died.

Now to have a look through the manual I downloaded and see what format I have to do for a CD-R full of MP3 files, and some other things like what the lift up bar at the front of the middle section of the middle seat is supposed to do. I lift it as far as it'll go, nothing happens.

I know your expy doesn't have all the bells and whistles but take a minute to see what it does have.

Like air conditioning, power windows, power steering, power brakes and cruise control. I may be missing some things. These items were options for many years and are taken for granted today. I bought a 73 Toyota Celica and it didn't have any of them but was a great little car. I also had a 66 Chevelle Malibu that had none of them. Just something to think about. Good luck with the truck.

It slides the seat fore and aft. Probably all gummed up if it's never been used, might take a bit of force to get it unstuck.

Just a side note, my frippery of a backup camera saved me from running over a little pedestrian the other day....

Well, the XL model is even more "bare bones" than the XLT. Some don't even have a 3rd row seat! They come with column shift and no console between the front seats (though many have an aftermarket console installed there).

Barest version is the SSV (badge will still say XLT)

Cloth front row, no console, vinyl second row, storage box instead of third row

No running boards

No sunroof

No navigation, no screen in center period

Simplistic trip computer controlled solely by the odometer button

Steel wheels

Basic radio + single CD

However: 4x4, skid plates, vinyl flooring, column shift

Also....no console is pretty damn convenient, you can walk around in the truck

PS in an EL, put the third row UP unless you like digging groceries out of various crevaces

Shit tends to fly around unless trunk is packed

The SSV is badged as an "XL." I know because I was shopping for one and almost bought it. . .

It LISTS as an XL in some documentation and literature

But the rear badge says XLT

My ex FIL wins. He had a '58 chevy with no radio, no heater, no A/C, V8, 2 bbl carb stick shift. Absolutely no accessories. Crank windows, etc. Came from the factory like that.

I have a bone stock EL XLT. Zero options. Still a lot of stuff for under $30k. Wanted the AWD platinum but didn’t have the extra cash. So far so good. Accessories are added when we have the money. So far the Michelin’s are the single biggest cost. Planning on Katzkin upgrade and installing a tablet over the stock radio. If we keep it as a tow rig also upgrading to the Max tow package components and adding real tow mirrors.

Most SSV's do indeed have the XLT badge on the back. But it depends on the model year. Some have a plain badge with no model on it, others have XL. Ford Fleet will furnish SSV's outfitted in a number of ways. I had one with leather front seats, a sunroof and no console -- all on the factory broadcast sheet. Generally they all have black grilles, as Ford police packages have had since the 1940's.
