I have the 2018 ruby red Max and I always try to park out and away from cars because parking stalls are getting smaller and my Max is large. Well one day I returned to my Max and yes the Max got the first driver's front door ding about the size of a quarter. Max is going into the repair shop on Thursday for the $1,250. repair. The issue is the three stage paint and the aluminum panel. The estimator said if it was a metal panel the dent would be easy to get out and no paint needed seeing the paint wasn't cracked. I was concerned when I first saw the Expy and saw it didn't have door molding. I plan to have the Expy for many years but these dents will get expensive. The cost of having something that looks great.

. Get a 2nd opinion! We got a similar sized ding in our door and the paintless dent guy had it fixed in about 20 minutes using his normal processes.

Ugh I’m so scared of having this happen to mine. We got some air travel coming up and I gotta park at one of those park and ride places... I may buy two parking spots lol

Could you valet at the airport thereby giving you a fall guy if something happens? (I am mostly joking...mostly.)

A good friend of mine was a valet for a number of years for a few different outfits and holy cow were there some horror stories from him and some of his work buddies. I only valet when there’s no other option and thankfully that’s a rarity for our area.

I've commuted to Boston, but now I work in Arlington, VA/D.C. I don't think it gets much worse... Navigating traffic is easier because people aren't as aggressive against a full size SUV. I've driven my wife's Mini and I'll take the Expy all day long. Parking is fine. I just moved parking garages and although the first one was close, the new one in my office building is even lower... Once you figure out that you aren't going to hit anything, it's a non-issue. I hit my rack on a couple of signs that hang lower than everything else, but they're on chains so it doesn't bother anything.

:-O

Haha I like that pic. I park downtown DC next to the White House. I've been meaning to take a video of that lot and how tightly packed it is. Basically it goes down 8 floors underground and people are literally double parked everywhere, and I mean everywhere, on the ramps (both sides), on each of the floors...its nuts. The rule is if you block someone, you leave your key inside so the attendants can eventually move your vehicle. There is NO WAY an Expedition Max or Suburban is getting down there, no way. However, they let these longer vehicles (double park, of course) on the main level with key left inside for the attendant.

But I would say garages like this are rare, maybe only in DC, NY, Chicago, and San Fran. and not all of the garages are like this, obviously, just a very few.

However, I will add that my friend who works at Capital One bank headquarters coudn't fit an Expedition in their employee parking lot due to height. Suburbans fit but not Expeditions, I think Suburbans sit an inch or so lower...

I can fit a 2015+ Suburban in my garage but not an Expedition, nor an Armada, nor a previous generation Suburban... Which is really immaterial since my wife drives the minivan and we only have a 1 car garage.

We have a '17 EL and an '18 "Shorty." Whenever parking might be a challenge, I prefer to drive the '18. Say whatever you want, I don't care, but I will not even attempt to parallel park my EL (and I have yet to try the Park Assist on the '18). I always choose a spot based on how easy I can get back out of it.

Even though the EL has a rear camera, you still can't see much around you close-up on the front or sides. I feel absolutely claustrophobic in the city and so I avoid driving there if at all possible. I've found that parking spots these days are much more narrow (and often not nearly as deep) as they used to be.

The '18 seems fatter than the '17 but it's also a foot shorter and it's *much* easier to park thanks to the 360 camera option. I rely on that so much I don't know what I'd do without it (and it's the first thing I hope to add to the '17 EL). This is how I know many parking spots are getting more narrow as the lines on "older" ones often match the dotted lines on the display while more recently added spots have painted lines that are well inside the dotted lines on the display.

Note the rear doors on our '18 are quite big and it's easy to hit the car parked next to you so I am always warning my passengers to look before throwing open their door.
