Where is coolant drain Ecoboost Expedition?

So I’m going to be draining and replacing coolant this weekend and can’t find the drain to save my life...do I merely remove the lower coolant hose? 2015 Ecoboost Expedition EL.

On my 5.4L 3V Triton it is lower right of radiator (little red cap) that was the drain. Had to crawl under front of passenger tire and look up the wheel well. I had difficulty finding on my own and had to come here for help. This may not help you but just one 3rd gen reference point.

Thanks for the reply. I had used the search function to actually find your posts about this earlier in the week but none of them discussed the Ecoboost specifically and I spent a long time under there looking for the red cap to no avail. I’m starting to wonder if indeed I have to remove the lower rad hose...

Did you try the drivers side? Here is a thread on a F-150 EcoBoost with the red cap coming from bottom on drivers side off a little “hose”.

Yep tried the drivers side too. No dice. I’ve been looking under here for hours. I can’t seem to get the lower rad hose off either. Might just have to take it to a shop [emoji19]

Tasca lists a drain plug for the radiator, specific to the 3.5, picture shows it on the passenger side, back of the radiator near the bottom. I stuck my hand up there and found it. It feels like a plastic radio knob.

If you don't mind replacing lower hose, not a bad idea if over 4 years old. Take a razor blade, and slit carefully at side of lower hose along the lower hose part of radiator. Then peel it apart. Be sure your drain pan is there obviously. I used to do it that way anytime I was changing both 5/8 inch hoses to heater core. I damaged a customers core on a Camaro, by trying to twist off. Ended up replacing his core for free. Heat and time makes radiator hoses stick.

That’s looking up from the passenger-side wheelwell. It’s where I circled, just up and left of that cooler line. Kind of a pain to get to, but what isn’t in these engine compartments?

Same location on my 5.4L, exactly it actually. Keep looking and feeling muddy it’s there! I ended up feeling it first then could see it much like AllBoostNoEco.....not easy to locate.

Since I’m replacing my turbo this week I wanted to update this thread with a couple photos showing where the coolant drain is on the 3rd gen Ecoboost Expedition. Passenger side. Likely not super accessible from side once wheel liner is back in.

My red drain plug shot out when I drained it to replace the coolant and went into a hole in the frame, never to be seen again. After I found out what that little piece of plastic cost I put some sealer on a bolt and stuck it in it's place. You guys need to start using mirrors more, I have 3 sizes and they have saved me many times. (the ones the women use for hair and make up with the plastic handle).
