I unhooked the battery when I installed the Bilsteins on it last weekend. This week, we took a road trip to my parents’ house in the mountains and I noticed the tranny bouncing between 6th gear and torque converter lock (I could feel it and see the tach jumping with it). This only occurred at about 60mph under light throttle and slight uphill load. Do you think this is a part of the learning process or do I have a new problem? It went away immediately after getting on the gas a bit, but came back under the same conditions.

How long was the Battery disconnected? Is it giving you any kind of codes? Did the new shocks restore it, "dynamically," beyond new. Jack it way up for example? Tires are the same? Tell us how long the battery was disconnected, answer no to everything else, and all the fluids check out fine, I would do a reset on the transmission module, clear it and make it relearn the parameters. Just don't get aggressive with it while its getting its head back on straight. Try and drive it like you do when the world is not up your back side, not your problem, and family has not pushed you to the point of going postal on someone! I could elaborate more but I would probably get arrested! For sure BEFORE the credit card bills roll in for this passed Christmas, pay it later, gifting! Mine takes about 2 days to sort itself out, 3 at the most! During this time make sure that YOU are the only one driving it! Stay on the pavement, out of the woods, off the gas, but don't get too pansy with it, if you drive 90 on the freeway, don't change that. It will figure you out, hopefully the problem will go away

It supposedly takes a few hundred miles to do a total relearn so hopefully that's what he's experiencing. The couple times I've had the battery unplugged on our Expy, I've refused to let the wife drive it afterwards for a couple days because she is a very aggressive driver!

The battery was disconnected for about 4 hours while I did the shocks. The shocks are set at a 1 inch level. I drove it last night and it did it again. As soon as I hit the gas or get off of it, it goes away immediately. I pulled the codes when I got back to the house and there was nothing. I don’t get a check engine light. It almost feels like it is gulping air when it happens, or switching quickly between 6th gear TC lock and unlock rapidly.

I bet You forgot to reconnect one of your vacuum hoses when you installed your struts or the hose got damaged.

The surging got worse yesterday for my wife and it threw a code.....#1 cylinder misfire. I changed the spark plugs today and cleaned the throttle body while I was in there. I also moved my # 1 cop to the # 2 position to see if the problem arises there next. I did the throttle body relearn process and took it for a drive. So far it hasn’t exhibited the problem again, but time will tell.

What's all involved with the throttle body relearn?

Just unhooking the battery for a while ( I had it unhooked while I changed the spark plugs) and then, once hooked back up, turn the ignition to ‘on’ without starting it for 5 seconds or so, start it and let it idle for 15 minutes. Don’t touch the throttle or move it during that idle time.

Well, I took her Expedition for a long ride today and it didn't exhibit any of the symptoms that I had before, so it was definitely time to change the plugs. The gap on my #1 cylinder plug was way off too. They looked like original plugs from 85k miles ago.

Front brake pads are next this weekend and then I'm hopefully done with problems for a while.

UPDATE: While I didn't experience the surging from before, I did look at Forscan at lunch today and noticed that the cylinder 1 misfire P0301 code was back. It said it was "maturing and intermittent at the time". I don't know if that was old data or not, quite honestly. I'll be putting a new post out there for possible troubleshooting given what I've done so far. I don't think it was old data just because the battery had been disconnected and all codes should have been cleared.
