They give good light, but the bulb life is terrible!

Yeah unfortunately that’s a trade off for a halogen to make more light on the same wattage. Their rated lifespan is 325 hours, so I’d guess 1-2 years where their basic stock bulb runs a lot longer. I’m going to keep the stockers in the glove box in case.

Yeah, when I used to run them, about 14-18 months was when the first would go, typically the 2nd was only a week or less behind. Always replaced them in pairs after that.

I used to do a fair amount of night driving, so that is a factor also.

Switched to LED’s this time around, and the Edge has HID.

New Sylvania Osram Ultras installed, comparison to old Phillips bulb. I notice the Sylvania has blue rings and looks a bit beefier. Excited to test them out.

My regular Silverstars only lasted 3-5 months when I tried them on my Mountaineer. I then tried the Xtravisions and got 12-15 months out of those. I haven't used the Ultras, but nor surprised to hear about the poor bulb life.

The Ultras have a shorter life than the Regular Silverstars....

Well we will see how they hold up lol, the back of the package says Sylvania will cover the bulb if it burns out before 12 months with proof of purchase. At $53 for 2 bulbs I’ll take them up on that if it fails before the rated lifespan.

Changed the oil today at 159,*** miles. There was what appeared to be a very small amount of metal on the drain plug. It's a bit concerning, but it's just a truck so I'm not going to worry too much about it. It would figure that this first appears right after I completed two of my outstanding truck projects though. :D

First non-rainy night I’ve driven and got a clear view of how the Sylvania Silverstar Ultras perform. Looked good. The old stock ones would die out on the road and look like they weren’t even on when an newer LED projector vehicle passed, the Silverstar Ultra halogens weren’t phased by the LED lights tonight and throw a lot stronger light than stock.....for $53 to rival more complex and pricey systems I’m happy. Could also be my 20/20 vision.

Keep us posted on how they hold up.
